....Are all very successful producers.....If a rapper chooses to have a producer make a beat for him, it certainly does not mean he can't do it himself. It's just another job in the industry, and another level of appreciation for audiences and fans to acknowledge.

There's plenty of good new school rap. Just little or no good COMMERCIAL new school rap, except for artists like Jurassic 5, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Blackalicious and Mos Def.....

KRS and Ice Cube aren't anything spectactular anyway. There's a bunch of good new school artists that sound far better than they ever did.

i wouldnt call most of those artist newschool. outkast has been around for alittle over a decade

this is coming from ME (mr. my-music is-better-than-yours-and-im-stubborn-so-fuck-you). Outkast is awesome, or at least Andre 3000, he writes and plays all his own stuff, all the instruments, which takes skill.

Newschool has nothing to do with age, or very little atleast. Its the style of rapping and beats. Outkast is definitly newschool. Oldschool is like de la soul and a tribe called quest

Nope, New school is actually about age....It references any artist/group within the decade. It isn't about rapping style because there isn't two clearly defined styles called old school and new school, every emcee has a different style.....OutKast's first album dropped in 94, you could say they're from either era....de la soul and tribe aren't necessarily old school simply because of their longevity in the industry.
Their first couple of albums each could be considered "old school," but then they both have albums leading into the late 90s, and De La is still going strong....

they both have good and bad songs. For instance, Lose Yourself is a good rap somg, and I enjoy it. If I had to choose between, I'd take rock

I won't really pick one over the other, because I dislike both, depending on what we are talking about. I don't like punk rock, or today's rock music a la Korn, or whatever other types of today's rock. 80's rock and southern rock to me are much more interesting, mainly because I like the style of the way the guitar is used in southern rock. I am a novice guitar player, so that really appeals more to me than today's rock.

I don't like rap at all, but that's my opinion. For some (many) of you who live in Canada or other nations around the world, perhaps you don't quite understand why so many people hate rap. At my university (University of Alabama) everybody has succumbed to the peer pressure of listening to what's cool at the time instead of what they really enjoy. At every frat party all that's ever played is rap. everybody is enthralled with it, more because of what the rap life symbolizes, rather than the music itself. The feeling of bling bling, big cars, easy women, etc. seem to be profiled many times over with the general population at my college (go to ua.thefacebook.com and you'll see some of the morons who try way too hard to fit in by listening to rap). The student body listens to rap because it reflects most people's sole reason that they are even in college: to get "wasted every night and fuck as many bitches as possible" (actual quote from my dorm neighbor).

Even worse are the rednecks who listen to rap. Yes, rap has become such a matter of peer pressure that it is not uncommon to see somebody driving a jacked up Z71 with Flowmasters, Buckmasters, and Ducks Unlimited stickers on the back window while listening to mainstream rap. These guys are particularly the worse, wearing camouflage baseball caps and confederate flag shirts while talking about how phat 50 is.

These people are the main reason why a lot of people here hate rap. It's not because of the music, but rather the hordes of dumbasses who listen to it.

i saw Scratch from the Roots last night, it was fuckin nuts... if anyone disputes that hip-hop takes skill, i urge you to check this guy out... human beatbox + looping the beat, one turntable, unbelievable... he covers entire songs by himself...

Yeah dude, it's the same down here, almost exactly. Except the redneck thing....

Thing is, they all listen to shit commercial/mainstream rap. That's not real rap, that's materialistic, cocky, bollocks. Real rap has been forced into the underground because of this stupid "hiphop."
There is still a HUGE scene though. Just check out my mp3 playlist, over like 6,000 tracks with the majority of them being GOOD hiphop...Theres a couple 50 cent tracks that I've downloaded for other people etc, but still - There is a seriously strong lack of, Chingys, Three 6 mafias, lil jons, and all that other bullish.

...and someone asked me about SweatShopUnion. Union Dues? Listen to about 2 minutes into that song and it will sum up why that track, IMO, sucks. Dude sounds like a fruitcake.
