im thinking a lower iso makes it better quality, but it makes it so you have to have it VERY steady or else it will be blurry

Lower ISO doesn't make it have better quality, it's only that the sensors in P&S are very low quality and only SLRs are good enough quality to use higher ISOs without getting noise.

ISO is how sensitive the sensor/film is to light... the bigger the ISO, the more vibrant the light will show up.

ISO 50 is very low/fast and would have nothing to do with a blurry picture.
