I agree with that.

i don't...i think its going to game 7, i think calgary is going to win the next game, then tampa will will win game 6 and beat calgary in game 7, id put 20 bucks on that.

i called the outcome of this series after game 4, no one believed me when i said tampa could lose game 5 and still come back and win 6 and 7. it was so wild tonight near the ice palace lots of fun, great times....go bolts!!!

Wow, really? It's called a prediction dip shit. I don't own a time machine. This series could have gone either way and I don't think your prediction had anything to do with it.

Did you call the Lightning to let them know they were going to win for sure? They should make a movie about you like Angels in the Outfield so you can let the Lightning know if their going to win that night.

Go back to persecuting Jews.[/quote:824d9]

stfu and go riot with the rest of your angry flamers, your just pissed a team from big tampa, fl a city where 95% of the population can't even skate on ice or tell you anything about hockey beat you.

ninty 06-09-2004 01:03 AM

This isn't any city in the US or Vancouver or Montreal. This is Calgary. There are no riots. We are proud of our team. Destroying things for winning or losing is the stupidest thing anyone can do.

Tampa didn't beat the Flames, 15 Canadians and 5 players from other countries beat the Flames.

[quote:fec15]Good series.

Congrats Tampa.

I really hope that the people down there embrace the Holy Grail, and not just forget about it tomorrow as Football season comes around, because I know how much the Cup would have been cherished in Calgary. Tampa deserved to win tonight, and I hope the fans prove to me that they deserve it as well. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

Calgary just ran out of gas. Yes, we played not so great in teh first 2 periods, but this was our 108th game this season. We played 3 overtimes in the game 7 of Vancouver, many overtimes in Detroit and many in San Jose. I think it just caught up with us. Not mention all the injuries. Here we have Regher, our best defense man possibly playing with a broken foot. Donovan was out from game 5 on and he’s an integral part of our second line. Not to mention all the injuries that haven't come to light yet and all the players that we didn't have in the lineup for the pretty much the entire playoffs including: Reinprecht, Gauthier, McAmmond, and Lombardi from the Detroit series on. Those are major players missing from our lineup.

I'm glad for Dave. Now he can retire in peace. Richards deserved the Conn Smythe, he played well. I don't think neither St. Louis nor Lecavlier played very well in the series. I don't think they deserved it this series. Khabbiboulin played well. Dingman played well, and that’s hard for me to say.

I do think the league needs to do something about goals crossing the line and such. How hard is it to put a chip in the puck so when it crosses the line the red light goes on? That way there is no controversy. I don't really know if that puck went over the line, but it would be nice to know for sure. Now I kind of know how Buffalo felt in '99.

The refing was questionable through out the playoffs. Namely the Gelinas hit from behind. Apparently hitting Lecalvier from behind deserves 5 and a game, but drilling Gelinas from behind warrants no penalty, and no suspension and Saprykins tripping in the game 7 of this series. That was the same move used to trip Simon which scored the winning goal in overtime in Game 6. So call it all the time or don't call it at all. Simple to me. Andrew Ferences hit with 1 minute left was not Charging. The hit was CLEAN. it wasn't from behind, and it was away from the boards. The stick of Ference got up on the face of St. Louis, yes, HOWEVER calling a penalty on any team with 1 minute left in game 7 of the Stanley Cup final where the teams are separated by ONE goal should not happen. I don't care if the guy is dead, you don't call a penalty with the game on the line. Let the players decide the game. Same goes for 5 on 3's. You just don't call them in the final.

All things aside, we still had a chance to win. Leopold had a wide open net and Khabbiboulin robbed him. That’s the way it goes sometimes.

Looking back I’m so proud of these guys. They have given me so much happiness over this past season. So many ups and downs. So many tings to cheer for. So many high fives, so many memories, so much emotion. I love this team, and I love this game. The best game in the world. I'm so glad I live here to experience this team and this game.

We lost to a great team, the best in the east. A team with 106 points. The Calgary Flames have everything to be proud of.

THANK YOU CALGARY FLAMES!

I end with a quote:

We left Calgary as a proud hockey club.
We came to Tampa as a proud hockey club.
We will leave Tampa as a proud hockey club.

Congratz Tampa Bay and congratz to Calgary on a good run.

it was a great game last night, congrats to both teams! They deserved to be there. I bet Bill Davidson is one happy camper, his team won the Stanley Cup and his basketball team (the Pistons) are in the finals

yeah a team made up mostly of Canadians who do know about hockey, the city didn't win the team did... i hate when fans act as if they did something to win the game...

Airborne Butters 06-09-2004 10:51 AM

I gotta say Calgary played a good series except for a few bad eggs here and there. I'd say the only person I don't like on Calgary would have to be Ingila he just seems to cry alot and bitch when a penalty gets called... Anywho I'm hoping to head up to Tampa for the parade stuff and such.

ninty 06-09-2004 10:58 AM

Ignila is the leader and captain of the calgary flames. It is his job to dispute certain calls. He was yelling and "complaining" when Lecalvier got hit from behind because the reffs called 5 minutes and a game, and right after that he got up and skated to the bench. The reason Ville got 5 minutes is Lecalvier stayed down on the ice. Basically he was acting, and Iginla caught him.

Another example is Ferences Charging penalty with 1 minute left in game 7 last night. As I said before, penalties should not be called when the game is on the line. It wasn't a legitimate scoring chance and shouldn't have been called. I think anyone would be upset if your one goal away, and you get a penalty called that pretty much extinguishes an opportunity at coming back. Hockey is an emotional sport. Iginla is the nicest, classiest and one of if not the most sportsman like player in the league. I was swearing and cursing and jumping up and down through out the game. Thats how much this means to me and all of Canada.

Zoner 06-09-2004 11:02 AM

You obviously don't know much about hockey, do you. hake:

I'm about the farthest you can get from a Flames fan, but even I recognize that Jarome Iginla is a class act all the way.

TonyMontana 06-09-2004 11:31 AM

and for the homos that say oh just cuz no one cares about hockey intampa, and shit, where you play hockey means SHIT all. It's the players that make a team win, not just the fans. The tampa team has around 15 or 16 canadians on it, and we should be proud that the cup will be in canada anyway most of the summer travelling all over. And what team wouldnt play with heart in a game 7 stanley cup final, so no one can say one team had more heart than the other. Shit happens, and Tampa came out the victors, now lets move on to next season

I'm not a Hockey fan, but I gotta disagree with you here. In all sports when the "game" is on the line - all calls have GOT to be called, seemingly frivilous or not. Not calling the call could result in a team that was within striking distance, being tossed all the further back. Thats how important these things are. In basketball - rock: - sometimes it comes down to that last call, a foul on a shot that misses by a half inch, but isnt called just costs the other team the game. I've even seen announcers champion this "omg this is the playoffs how are you calling that obscure call" but then get pissed when other calls dont get made. I'm for call it when you see it regardless of the situation. Part of sports IS exploiting calls to your benefit.

Ottawa signs bryan murray as their headcoach...basically florida and ottawa switched up coaches oOo:

Zoner 06-09-2004 01:25 PM

Yeah, basically. Is Bryan Murray the guy with the fucked speech impediment? I was trying to figure that out earlier.

I guess I'll find out at his 1st press conference.

Nyck 06-09-2004 01:27 PM

he was the head coach of the wings from about 90-93 or so...just before bowman

I know what your saying. The problem with the NHL is sometimes the call is made, and sometimes it isn't.

If the league said: "this is what you call and this is what you don't call no matter what time it is no matter what game" then i'd have no problem with it. The players would then know what they can and can't do in regards to geting a penalty. However, this is not the case. Some reffs stick the whistle in their pocket during important games, and some call so many penalties it disrupts the flow of the game.

Still, I know its kind of rediculious to say call this penalty in Januray, but don't call it during the playoffs, but I really think this is the way it should be. All I want to see is the players play the game with out the outside interference of officials.

Pyro 06-09-2004 02:33 PM

St. Louis is crazy though...the dude gets nailed left and right and gets up right away. Reminds of of gilmour...a gritty small guy who doens't let people push him around.

Quit the fighting...Tampa won...Calagry lost...both played well...both deserve to be commended.

First time in Stanley Cup history that the Losing team had more goals than the winning team.

14 Goals for Calgary in the 7 game series.
13 Goals for Tampa Bay in the 7 game series.

Although Calgary has 28 players on teh roster while Tampa has 24. Thats mainly due to injuries and such.

Iginla isn't going anywhere. There would be a major ouctry if they let him go. Hes not selfish, and he wants to finsih what he started. I bet most of the guys want to stay here because they feel like they have unfinifshed business. Of course we wouldn't be here without Iginla. He's the best player in the world. He can be counted on to come up big and he did time and time again. TAmpa did a good job of shutting him down in games 6 and 7.

I bet Jaques Martan could take Ottawa further than this guy.

================
Got this off the flames board, which was subsiquently taken off a Flyers board:

On one of the Flyers boards, a fellow Flyer fan wrote this post concerning these Finals. Enjoy.

The anatomy of the fix
First thing's first, Tampa deserves their props. They're a ****, **** good young team that has done things the right way. Their GM did a great job in backing his coach when the star players complained...a lesson that certainly be learned by the moron running our favorite team. They have one of the top coaches in the NHL and bust their asses every night. They were the best team in the East and deserved to be in the Finals. I have no ill will towards them whatsoever and that should have been evident when I built them up all year during the regular season.

However....they are illegimate champions due to either intentional or non-intentional incompetence of the NHL. Calgary was robbed, and I honestly can't think of a worse injustice ever placed upon a team, at least in my lifetime. Here's a timeline of how the events unfolded:

1. 4:30 mark of the 3rd period, game 1.

Corey Stillman leaves his feet and delivers a board/charge/elbow to the face of Nilsson. No penalty is called on Stillman until a scrum breaks out after the hit and he gets 2 for roughing. No penalty, no suspension.

2. Calgary goes up 2-1 in the series with a game 3 win and Kerry
Frasier and Brad Watson are your referees for Game 4.

At the 1:52 mark of the 1st period, Frasier cites Mike Commodore for tripping. A subsequent scrum breaks out at center ice with all players pushing and shoving and Kerry Frasier decides to take only Clark off the ice and give Tampa a full 2:00 five-on-three powerplay. No replay is shown of the Clark call and Tampa goes on to score.

3. 15:47 of the 3rd period, Game 4.

In a 1-0 game Ville Niemmenen is given a 5:00 boarding major with 4:13 left in the game. I challenge anyone to give me an example of a major penalty being handed out in a SCF game late in the 3rd period of a close game. It's unheard of. Upon seeing replays, Frasier was standing 5 feet away from the play and made no call. Either Brad Watson made the call from all the way on the other side of the ice or they called a penalty on the play because Lecavilier layed on the ice. Either way, this unprecedented call puts Tampa on a PP for the remainder of the game and ensures them tying up the series.

4. The NHL announces the next day Niemmenen is suspended 1 game for the hit.

When pressed why Stillman wasn't suspended for his game 1 hit, Colin Campbell responds he would have been had Nilsson not been able to play in Game 2. Lecavilier would return to the ice for Tampa in Game 5.

5. Game 5, with Calgary leading 2-1 in the third, a total phantom holding the stick call is made on Rhett Warrener.

After watching the replay, it is seen that Lecavilier actually high sticked Warrener who grabbed the stick to get it out of his face. Tampa goes on to score to tie the game.

6. The NHL pulls scheduled referees Kerry Frasier and Brad Watson from Game 6 due to fan complaints.

The NHL cites the referee's safety as being an issue in the decision.

7. This is the big one.....Calgary scores with 8 minutes left in regulation to go up 3-2.

While nobody notices the puck go in at regular speed, ABC shows several replays and all 3 announcers vehemently agree the puck is in the net. John Davidson comments "I can't believe this, if they drop the puck it's over." The off-ice officials do not even review the play....and if they actually did, come to a "conclusive" decision in less than 20 seconds. Similar "possible goal" situations such as Michael Handzus' attempt that wasn't even close in Game 7 of the ECF had play stopped and were reviewed thoroughly....play was never stopped in this case. The go-ahead goal was scored and the NHL did everything they could to ignore it.

8. TSN breaks the news that Kerry Frasier will work game 7.

This of course is the same man who was pulled from Game 6 due to Calgary's fans.

9. 70 seconds into the game Frasier makes his prescense felt calling a slash penalty.

No replay is shown. Half way through the first, another penalty is called on Calgary and again no replay is shown. TB takes advantage and gets the all-important first goal. At this point, 35% of Game 7 has been played with Tampa being at a man advantage.

10. 14 minutes left, 2-0 TB, Gary Thorne comments..."I'd love to see Dave Andreychuk score a goal and put this away."

11. To be fair, with Tampa leading 2-0 in the 3rd, Bill McCreary makes a horrificly embarrassing call to put Calgary on the PP.

The Flames score and make it 2-1. Calgary gets their first break from an official in the 3rd period of game 7.

12. With under a minute left, Frasier whistles a charge call on Calgary after a text book shoulder-to-chest hit on Martin St. Louis.

St. Louis is cut from a stick, but it cannot be a high stick because he was on his knees and the stick was below the dasher. Just a horrible call that goes against the history of the sport. On a personal note, there's no doubt in my mind that Frasier was just waiting to hit Calgary, the Flames, and their city with a big **** you. He did it and essentially ends the game and seals the Cup for TB.

Now, these happenings, not "because they beat the Flyers" is why the veterans on this board are p'd off. **** happens is not a good enough rationale for these events....in my opinion it's a systematic pattern of Calgary taking it in the ass. As a fan of hockey, that's not right, and it's a perfect ending for this bush-league and the garbage this sport has become. The bitching (at least from me) isn't a Tampa thing, it's an NHL thing.

Don't get me started on basketball. I just had to miss 23 minutes of a Calgary Flames special program beacuse of stupid fucking overtime.

Guess what? Nobody in Calgary or Canada for that matter cares about a bunch of black guys trying to put a ball through a hole. We are much more concerned about a bunch of white guys trying to put a puck in a net.

NHL hockey is the best sport ever.

CFL football comes in second.

NLL lacrosse is third.

Everything else isn't worth mentioning. They all suck. The US can have their basketball and their baseball. I don't want it. Give me my hockey and i'm happy.
