I would have taken chicken shit in the chest for a good angled picture. Where's your war face?

new stock came today. i like it. looks good. may switch back and forth between wood and this synthetic.

i looked again to see if it was chromed, but i'm not sure. i will have to look into the serial to see when and where it was made i think to figure it out. it's tough to see.

That's the Tapco stock, isn't it? I can put the same stock on mine ONLY after meeting federal law 922r. I'd have to replace some of the "imported" parts on the rifle with parts made in the U.S. to make it a "U.S. built" rifle. The Tapco stock w/pistol grip counts as 3 parts. Depending upon which SKS you have would determine how many parts would have to be replaced in order to make it legal. Crazy right?

As of now, i also have a Tapco stock (black) and i'm getting that F/P and a new mag. That would add up to 7 "U.S. made" parts. I'll still need a few more to make it legal. My stock is sitting in the package which is right behind me. rolleyes:

yeah i know i've read about your 10 parts law. totally gay. i guess thats one advantage i have here in canada. didn't have to change out any parts at all.

yeah its the tapco t6 stock.

Going to the range tomorrow and taking the SKS and Mosin. Hopefully i fixed the mosin sticky bolt syndrome. cleaned out the chamber real good of cosmo and put some lubrication on the rounds for when they extract. thats why those rounds are grey in the one pic.

Simo Häyhä 08-10-2007 09:05 PM

i cured my sticky bolt by leaving the m91/30 in the car during a hot day, all the grease dripped out into a newspaper on my dash. seemed to work well.

ninty 08-13-2007 11:21 AM

i think i'm gonna have to stick the barrel in th eoven or something cause i shot 8 rounds out of the nagant at the range before i said screw it. once the barrel warms up it's a bitch to get those rounds out. or maybe i should try to find a place that makes new 7.62x54r if they still do.

the sks was great though. only put about 60 rounds through her, but she fired like a champ. no slam fires, misfeeds, jams, no nothin. it's a lot of fun to shoot.

and i just found out that my no4 mk2 is waiting for me at home!

looks like a WASR10 not an AK
looks like a WASR10 not an AK[/quote:38cbd]

Sure it's an AK......a cheap one but an AK none the less. The only thing i can comment on it so far is fit & finish. Not too shabby but i haven't treated the wood furniture yet. The mags fit pretty good with minimal wobble and the front sight doesn't appear to be canted. The big test would be feeding and ejecting. If there are problems, i should be able to sort them out but i don't foresee any. As you know, the prices of "higher" end AK's are through the roof and i can't see spending that kind of cash on a crudely built rifle. For the price of a Russian or Chinese AK, i could simply build a kickass AR. That's another reason i went with the Saiga. Now that rifle is built in Russia and the fit & finish is much better and it shot extremely well. I swapped out the rear stock to a "thumbhole" one. I may pick up another Saiga (at $249.00) and do the conversion so i can fit a pistol grip and regular AK mags.

The best part about most of the rifles we posted are the costs. You can get a Mosin, SKS, WASR, Saiga, Hi-point, Shotgun, for under $300. The price of ammo is going to exceed the weapons!!

8/1/07 update:

Just refinished the wood furniture on my AK. Also swapped out the pistol grip. The pic was taken with a shit camera but trust me, the rifle looks totally different now.

Before i re-did the furniture, i took the rifle out and ran it hard. Was able to bump fire 4 shot groups through it. The handguards got awfully hot after running a few mags through it fast. The sights didn't even have to be touched. I was picking off empty shotgun shells from the shoulder at 25 yds. I bet if i bench fired it, i'd have a nice group at 100 yds.

AK's really look out of place with a sling and bayonet attached. eek:
