BASHING

swordfight:

Does it really matter how heavy the weapon is?

A blow to the head with a steel object or a hard wooden stock would mess u up pretty badly. In fact, a well placed shot should put u down for the count. Maybe not dead, but it should KNOCK you for a HUGE loop.

[quote="Old Reliable":d230b]doesnt anyone have books? lol[/quote:d230b]

I have the "U.S. Army Handbook 1939-1945" by George Forty. It's a great book with info on weapons, uniforms, badges/insignias etc. It says the BAR weighs 19 lbs unloaded. Add a bipod, and you might get that up near 30 lbs.

Unfortunately, quoting a book on a message board isn't good enough for the pickiest of posters. cool:

Yeah, it does matter -- if just out of curiosity. If you had to pick a weapon to be bashed by, wouldn't you pick a light pistol rather than a BAR? A pistol will give you a mild bruise and a headache, where the BAR would leave something more permanent. evil:

they might have mixed it up with the M1919 A1 which weighed about 40 lbs.

Are u insane? Tell u what, give one of your friends a big monkey wrench. Now tell him to hit u on the head with all his might (which u would do if u were in a massive hand to hand fight). Let me know how long it takes for u to wake up or if it knocks you for a big loop. Then let me know if that is sufficient enuf time for him to finish u off?

Now have him bash u in the chest. See if that will knock the wind out of you.

Have him smash your arm. See if that mzkes your arm tingle so bad that u cant aim. Or even the face and find out if u can still see with your eyes watering.

Mild bruise and a headache. Hey man, guns are made of hard cold steel. Not those plastic water pistols u normally play with.

so you're saying a p38 should do the same whip damage as a BAR? hake:

Not at all, all i am saying is that if u get hit pretty hard with a pistol it will really mess u up bad. Head blow could kill you. A face bash will cause you to see a huge flash of light and major disorientation. A blow to the chest would probly knock the wind out of you. A bash on the arm could break or fracture the arm or it would cause your muscles to cramp so bad that your arm is rendered useless.

Dont think about what u see in the movies. In real life, a blow from a pistol can and will do major damage.

Im not saying a blow form a pistol is the same as a rifle. But it could do a lot of damage. Then again a blow to the head with a rifle butt or a handgun could kill you, even with one blow.

and how do you propose we map a damage map into the bashing system?

Well since this is a game, i think it is just fine.
Otherwise this is probly a decent suggestion.
The game should differentiate the differnce btwn taking a hit to the head as opposed to a hit on the arm or chest. A blow to the back of the head should be instant death. A smash on the face should do say 50 dmg with a pistol. Hmm, maybe 75 with a rifle butt, cuz we know a blow to the nose would probly kill u. A blow to the jaw or side or the face would probly split your face open or at least break your face.

A blow to the chest should be 35 (pistol) / 50 (rifle) or at least a definitive disorientation, where it makes aiming harder or more erratic.

U could make a rifle blow do more damage since it is a heavier weapon.

Each weapon type should have different damages.

you think about these things too much oOo: isn't it easier just to shoot them?

Whipping

Well ther are 2 things that I can think of to answer that question. 1 is easily enough and maybe a little crude is to go to a window and bash it with either and see how many hits it takes to break. 2nd in real life type stuff is that damage to the body from an outside force is caused by a few things it seems: velocity of the object, texture/resiliancy of the object, and weight of the object ( I think velocity might cover that though ). So if both objects have basically the same texture/resiliancy then weight and speed are interchangable. Short possible answer= the lighter weapon could possibly do more because it is going faster...depends on the basher and their technique.
