Good idea Joe, i guide on how to record demos would be cool...i was asking on how to do it some weeks before .

Bazooka_Joe 12-26-2002 08:14 AM

Jerk, EXCELLENT. Are you famuliar with Adobe's Premiere at all? I think that's the one used for film editing.

PS: Do you mind if I re-amp the text a little bit? Add in TOC links? (So when you click them, they goto the designated section.)

PM me your email if you want me to send you the HTML text file.

I've heard of it, Adobe that is...never tried it however since my little old legacy VidEdit does the trick. Maybe if they have a screenshot of it on the Adobe website it can be added along with the manufacturers description.

As far as adding Target= to the HTML, by all means. You've got the URL, you can right click and save pictures..... take it away man.

Bazooka_Joe 12-26-2002 11:56 AM

Thanks, I'll take care of this when I get home.

The only reason I recommend Primere is because its highly recommended by alot of people for video editing. But hey, your video is fine. If that' the way you did it, then I'll go with that. I just watned to know if you knew the proggie so we could add it to the guide.

Is there anyone that is famuliar with editing video with Primere that would like to contribute to Jerk's guide? If not, I'll just submit this.

[quote="[NBK] G.I. Jerk":1a3a7]gf4 ti4200 w/TV-out played into a VCR
VCR played back into an ATI TV-tuner/Video capture card.
Encoded from AVI to WMV using windows media encoder 8 using a medium quality bitrate. (700 kilobits per/sec)

You could skip the VCR step if you use a 2nd computer to do the recording.....you'd save a lot of quality from being lost too. Theoretically I could pump the TV-out straight into the vid-capture card but the framerate would royally suck.[/quote:1a3a7]

The frame rate doesn't royally suck at all, thats how i record most of my video's and theres barely any diference in frame rate. happy:

Exactly, this movie that he made was great quality, you can make out everything.

Ya but is your card only four megabytes like mine? Another consideration is whether or not it compresses on the fly. Mine doesn't....so basically a 15 minute video (24 fps 320x240 44.1kHz 16bit) eats up TWO GIGS of diskspace in 15 minutes, whereas newer capture cards using MPEG-4 for instance can record 2 HOURS of video and only use 800 Megs or so......meaning my hardrive works a lot harder than yours.

I normally play and record in mpeg 4 at 320x240. What do you mean by a 4 meg card? 4 meg video card?

"I normally play and record in mpeg 4 at 320x240. What do you mean by a 4 meg card? 4 meg video card? "

That's exactly what I meant. My card only has 4 megs of ram onboard and doesn't have the newer smaller (file size) codec available to you....such as Mpeg-4. I have to do mine in YVU-9 which is basically RAW uncompressed data whereas your card compresses the picture to mpeg-4 on the fly. That means my harddrive spins like a top.

This really gets me thinking that I need a new card. I'm jealous..LoL.

Nice movie! So, that's what lean/strafing looks like, huh? heh heh

My cards only a basic pinnacle pctv rave :) I don;t even think it has onboard ram afaik it uses system ram.

Bazooka_Joe 12-27-2002 12:02 PM

So which card do you recommend then Jerk? I'm looking at either that external USB ATI, or a card by Hauppage. What do you think?

I 'spose..... no binds for it tho.... my non-default controls setup makes it easier to do with 2 fingers.

Well Joe, I havent followed the technology of capture cards. I bought one 6 years ago and as you can see it serves me well, being the dinosaur that it is.(PCI)
My opinion is uneducated.

I can say this about ATI however.... When I bought the original ATI "All In Wonder" card for disgusting $274 CDN before tax, it came with a manufacturers rebate to the tune of $80 or so... I forget.
The rebate said to wait 6-8 weeks. After 3 forever's and 3 emails (unrepsonded) I decided to phone them. It took 8 months to get something from ATI I was told to wait 6-8 weeks for. The composite video in-out on my card got fried hooking up a VCR with the my bawx turned on. My friend who has the identical card (only paid $6 in a church basement sale 5 years later...GRRR) also has the same in-outputs fried. Bear that in mind.

Definately go with one that supports MPEG-4 though.... that's basically what the VOB files are on a DvD movie.
