Quick History Lesson.

Forgive my gross ignorance on this matter, but please bear with me, i wish to learn.

#1 - Could i trouble someone for a brief history of the conflict. I'm not an idiot, i know alot of it is religious, but i know not details.

#2 - The Scottish and English used to hate each other, but they get along now. Why doesn't England offer a similar deal to ireland, and if they have, why do the irish not accept it?

that's about it. apologies if my ignorance on such an important matter in my own commonwealth offends oOo:

christ I hate these fucking shitty threads, why can't everyone just smoke some weed, get high, and forget all about it!

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 02-02-2003 11:05 AM

Hey I wonder if this thread is controversial?

Im a Brit and I'm proud of it so kma nothings gonna change that, just like you guys are proud to be Americans, Canadians, Australians and Irish etc..

Do I agree with what they did? No. Are all English people like that? No.

Do I agree with how the I.R.A act? No.

If you want an indepandant Ireland go for it, but try not to blow people up in the process.

You only have 1 life...

I don't mean forget about all the horrible incidents, but like Bunny said, not all English people are like that, in fact, about 1% of English people are like that, in fact probably much less. In every country, there's always a small fraction of people who's views are extreme, and unfortunately, some of these people get their own way

I love England as a country, it has great countryside and quaint little postcard villages. What i dislike are the minority of people who are stuck up snobs, plain rude and look down on you like scum. (same could apply for most famous people though)
And while Scotland and England get along these in the manner that we dont field open battles with bows and arrows and cavalry charges and hit and run attacks fighting for land anymore, but the so called "british" government still screws us right over. And its hellish because we cant take our complaints to the battle fields.
When Scotland won its independence at the battle of bannockburn 1314, do you know how we lost our independence?
F*cking bribes! Our scottish nobels were paid off and given land in exchange for signing over scotland back to britian, and the traitoring bastards did it, much to the objections of the riots afterwards.
No politics, no voting, just sheer bullshit. and it seems that today, things work the same way. except this time its the politics thats bullshit.

Isnt that how William Wallace was handed over to the English, by treachery of the nobles?

Robert the bruce you're referring to?

02-03-2003 04:52 AM

yup. Robert the Bruce.

Captain Bunny 02-03-2003 06:22 AM

It was william wallace and Andrew Murray who led the battle of stirling bridge, which wasnt fought in an open field as Braveheart would have you beleive, you know, when he does his "you may take our lives but youll never take our freedom speech"....

Wallace and Murray waited on a place called abby craig while the english army crossed the bridge, then when half the army was over, they attacked, slaughtered the english on their side of the bridge, and then the english on the other side couldnt aid their soldiers as the bridge was packed with corpses, many drowned in the river trying to flee the scots. That was wallaces first victory in battle, murray was killed though. The Wallace Monument was built on abby craig.

Robert the bruce led the battle of bannockburn, which is near stirling....
He was half scottish half irish in regards to his parents, but there is norman, viking etc etc in him if you want to go back a little further. he was born in scotland though, so that makes him scottish.
