i haven't read this all so i'm sorry if someone's already said this, but i'd go with cable, but the problem with cable is that if lots of people are on the server it tends to be a bit laggy, but not too much. problem with dsl is... well, it's just not as cool as cable!

Depends on a lot of things. If you pay more, you have more bandwidth. Goes for cable, goes for (a)dsl. Not with each company though.
I prefer cable, although my upload speed is REALLY crappy (128 kbit/s ~16 kB/s). Ping (online gaming) is good: around 50, typically (on servers near me of course). Download is fine; 200+ kB/s on average. Maximum of 350. To have a download speed like that on ADSL, well, I'll have to pay a lot more. Downloading and ping is what counts, at least for me. its weird here , my uncle gets almost 3 kbits download with cable while with dsl i get like close to 1.5 kbits. my dad also pays more for this shit so im stuck with dsl for a while altho cable seems better where he lives

Mine is 256k/256k (More like 180k/128k I say) And we pay $40, while with Comcast, we could get 1.5mbps/256K (I could care less about upload..) for $42.95, but my DSL (MSN/Qwest, extremely shitty) goes down at least 3-4 times a day, and at my other house, we're lucky it isn't down when we turn the computer on, so we're hopefuly changing it.

I have some type of cable that gives 3000k down and 300k up... though it costs 50 bucks a month.. Its really good when you can actually find a good server, one time i got 9-12 ping on one.

^ I have a 3.06, 1024 RDRam, Radeon 9700 Pro, and tweaked Alienware.. it says i had a better connection than a T1..
