Yeah I have been downloading everything I need this summer. I thought I might start getting into modding and skinning some downloaded everything there is for them and turtorials. I will have nothing else to do besides that playing single player and bowling. ( I can't get faster connection no how our internet is owned by the phone company and it is a monopoly or I would have another internet in my home town so would one or two others) They also want run cable from my house it is just like less than a mile. I could get the internet from direct tv but that costs an arm and a leg. You have to buy the internet thing which is like 400 some dollars and then 50 bucks a month man it ain't worth that. Yeah maybe I can go out to a local community college where I will be taking some classes and play a little in the library or when I am substituting at the local school (good internet there).

56k worked just fine on online games before and it still does now. There are a few 56k only servers out there. Plus there are some proper servers out there that can take the load of 56k players.

Having said that you will face the above prejudice a lot. So maybe you should forget it.

This is a bit of a sad community, really. I've never seen anything like it before in any other.

Try visiting http://www.forumplanet.com/PlanetMedalOfHonor/ and asking them there. I think they're nicer and they have a server you might like to try.

They aren't anti 56k there, either, unlike this place.

A lot of people believe the myth that 56k connections "lag" a server. I've still yet to see hard proof of why a perfectly stable server would be slowed down just because one or two of the clients connected to it receive and send data slowly.

I was playing on a server today with about 3-4 56k players and it ran just fine - didn't hang once.

It's always the same... server starts to hang, everyone presses TAB and looks for someone with high ping.. must be a 56ker!

Perhaps it's just the server taking a shit and, seeing as he is on a slow connection, it's going to affect him way worse than all the cable and DSL monkeys.

Yeh, 56kers are the root of all evil.

hake:

can we assume you dont have a cable connection.??

Of course you can, it's a free world.

I have ADSL.

i have to agree with ydiss on this...that is such an urban legend that 56k causes lag. the only ppl who suffer from 56k lag...is the ppl with the 56k. the fact is, dialup connections have no effect on the "lag" of a server. i help run my clans server, and before i got cable last august i, used to have 56k. i can ASSURE you that having a dialup connection on a server doesnt cause everyone else to lag. it is simply bs. i cant tell you how many times 56kers have been playing in a server im in and everyone else stays below 60 ms pings.....absolutely untrue myth and its very tiresome to hear noobs complain about the damn 56k lagging the server hake: the only thing that 56kers will do is make it hard for you to kill them since they will be skipping all over the place. but as far as making other ppl lag, its simply proposterous eek:

maybe we should put them in concentration camps right

gtboys34 05-03-2003 04:16 PM

lol ure exactly right about that tab pressing thing man lol i do that all the time and pass blame onto someone else and im sure most of us here do the same as well

Dragonwraith 05-03-2003 05:04 PM

In the TEAM HARDCORPS server we're hosted 4 56Kers and it didn't lag at all.... only time it hung was the 1st round of the map till everyone finally loaded into the game but a simple RCON RESTART fixed that problem. The ONLY time i really noticed bad lag was in maps with shitty FPS.
fire2: Does MOH:AA handle OK on 56k? I mean in games with +10 players, I am thinking about getting MOH:AA, and I want to know for sure about 56k, because the only reason Im buying it is for Multiplayer... thanks![/quote:fb426]

Its livable I've been playing on the PMOH server (which is in america I live in the UK) and I have a very healthy connection when I went over there, that was until a week today when I got ADSL changes things it does, ignore the taunts and moaners btw keep your head down and start to own! Good luck!

56K

I have to say that a 56K isn't as bad as people think. Unfortunately where I live I can't get DSL or Cable or anything like that so I play with a 56K. For me the 56K works pretty good. I rarely come across servers where there is lag. The only thing is you have to pick and choose carefully which servers you play on. I don't normally play with more then 20 people and I never play where my ping on the server would be more than 500 or so. I hate the complete bullshit that goes on. I sometimes get booted for a high ping and it's bullshit. If I were the chose to believe that 56K causes lag, then having DSL or Cable would absolutely suck. Even the idea that you would have lag when you have a DSL or something fast is quite stupid when you think about it. It happens obviously, but not because of someone using a 56K. Basically to sum it all up... 56k is A okay.
i used to have a server.
the first sight of a 56k loser he was punted immidietly, i dont need your aol connection lagging everyone else up. get cable

ps- yes i was once a 56ker just like you[/quote:54471]

You have to consider that not everyone has cable available and not everyone can afford broadband. So don't say things like "get cable" so matter-of-factly. It makes you sound like one of those punks who have their parents buy them everything.
