Bolt Thrower, Pantera, Obituary, Megadeth, Metallica, Death, etc.
Personally, I don't even consider bands like System of a Down, Linkin Park metal. Pop-metal, maybe (or was it NU-metal?). I used to listen to Bolt Thrower a lot. Now that's metal. Been on several concerts. Compared to that (and lots of other metal bands founded in the '80s and early '90s), the new stuff is kinda poppish. Not that I don't like that 'new stuff'. It sounds fine. I just don't consider it to be metal. Metal like it used to be is dying; there still are some bands that make good metal, but the metal scene has culminated some while ago, and is on its way down. |
