I said this to my mate when we watched that self same video. In 5 years (let alone 20) HL2 will be out-dated. Crazy to think that only 10 years ago we were still playing 8-bit games. We'll look back and fondly remember how chunky and unrealistic those faces are in HL2 and how basic the graphics were. But that's neither here nor there. Right now it's revolutionary. It must be the first game to erradicate the "Hmm, I wonder if I can do that" factor that we all encounter with a new game. You know... you see a chair in a game and go to "use" it just in case it lets you smash it or pick it up - most of the time it's just a solid object that won't move. With HL2 it looks to have changed that to "Hey, I know I can do that". If it's not a structural object it can be moved and destroyed. It seems that everything in the "Source" world reacts and acts just like it should in real life. Valve are going to make a lot of money from this engine. I am certain that ID now have a challenger for licensing their engine. If you were a games producer who wanted to make an FPS game and you had to decide between ID's and Valve's engines which would you choose? |

Detail, please.
586MB Quicktime movie. oOo: http://www.fileplanet.com/download.aspx?f=123983 It shows off some stuff about both the game's engine, and the game itself. -Great character detail with realistic wireframe body structure, so facial/body movement is very closely replicated. -flowing movement with both enviroment objects and ragdoll models (This IMO, was worth the wait of the video) -Engine incorporates many visual effects that Graphics Cards promised to support, including water effects, bitmap shading (Making flat walls look like jagged rocks) -Enhanched AI (They showed your character blocking a door with a table, and the enemy trying to open it. When he couldn't he ran to a window and tried to shoot from there, while his partner blew the door) From there, it's all about the game. You meet some characters and see how realistic they look, it shows how your teammates are non-scripted characters, so they won't move without you, some of the aliens, large to small, how you an drive a buggy-like vehicle, and some of the weapons. (My personal favorite, the laser-guided missile! evil: ) I highly recommend you dload it if you haven't already. |
After playing the Doom III alpha, and seeing the video for HL2, I think HL2 will outpreform.[/quote:7ebca]
me too i really wanted doom3 but once that video came out, it has changed my mind |
What's the point of playing when you have to put everything on extra low and a resolution of 640x480? It defeats the purpose of buying a graphically superior game.

HL2 is more for me i think.
