We here in the greatest country in the world the USA!!!!! Have rights, among those rights is the right to overthrow the govt if "we the people" see it fit. You cant do that with sticks and rocks. Im not saying this would ever happen but we have to be able to do so if it ever did.

Australia controlled guns and our crime rate went up? What frigging planet are you on, mate? I am actually proud of the fact that only 69 people per year in Australia are killed by guns. Compare that to the US 11,000. Auto rifles and handguns should be controlled. Hunting rifles and shotguns are OK. In Australia, the only people I know who own guns are people who live on properties and guns are used to control pests and threats to livestock.

also, increasing the no. of guns is going to make the crime rate soar. the scenario you depict sounds OK. but arguements on the street are going to end up with someone dead rather than someone with a black eye.

Also if people come out with the "control guns, then you'd have to control other stuff like knives" is BS. You can run away from a guy with a knife. I'd much rather swallow my pride and bolt and live, rather than take on a guy with a knife.

We need guns to protect ourselves from people like John Asscroft.

My $0.02 - No Offense intended, but from i hear/statistics, etc, America's Crime rate is ridiculous, so perhaps owning handguns and such is a good idea. However, I don't think Australia's crime rate is high enough to justify people owning Handguns for personal protection.

Also, Just for the record, I dislike Hunting. The idea of killing something defenseless for the sheer thrill of ending it's life doesn't float my boat, frankly. Call me old-fashioned. If it's a pest, or it needs to be culled, then sure. But not for the hell of it. hake:

yeah, if you need to hunt, be fair and use a flintlock or bow, if you miss, the animal takes you out, if you're good, you take it out.

AFAIK you can still buy a full auto with a class-3 license, but you can't buy large-mag semi-auto rifles (whereas you could before without special permit, ie only passing background check)
