Since I'm not too bad a shot I'd pick pistol, preferrably large caliber like .45ACP or the .50AE,
shotgun scatters = damage to house
rifle may overpenetrate = more damage to house

pistol slugs are perfect since the badguy becomes a bullet sponge and you don't have to shoot for distances greater than 25 yards.

I would keep a airsoft ( gas powered ) and if some1 comes in my house i point it at them they get scared lol.
