All I know is my $200 90nm 3200+ at 2.7ghz is faster than a FX-55.

I don't think anyone on the Intel side could say that. ($200=FX-55 that is)

Im just waiting to see what comes next in the pipeline regarding graphics and cpu's. Was considering an amd 64 but with dual core later this year id probably prefer to see how that works out first.

Could just about order an amd 3500-winchester and motherboard tomorrow, not really sure what gains i would see so im gonna hold out for a bit.

Once you have a hyperthreaded p4 its hard to go amd, heard a lot of people say that multitasking is a lot more sluggish with amd due to lack of hyperthreading.

.....i have a thing about being a "beta" tester. While i can understand the importance of having others test your product before you release it, i for one am not one of those willing to try. I'll wait till the bugs are worked out before i try. Still haven't put SP2 on yet even though i had it on disc since it's release. I'm just about ready to do my daily re-format so i'll bring everything up to speed.

Name is Texian, so it must be good.

You wouldn't see much improvement unless you got one hell of an OC out of that 3500+.

A64 multitasking keeps up for the most part. It might be a little sluggish if you encoding a video and doing something else that takes a lot of CPU usage. I've done some audio encoding while gaming and it didn't slow down at all.

I'm interested in what will be gained from dual cores as well. I hope it's not just better multitasking like current dual cpu setups. I'm also kind of scared to see how much heat the dual core prescotts put out. ed:

I've never reformatted cause my comp is a raging piece of crap and it wouldn't do any good, But reformatting DAILY is ridiculous.
