I believe he left the band without notice because he was too fucked up, that's why Roger made wish you were here.

Syd was kicked out of the band because he was so fucked up he could barely play his instruments anymore, and he would miss alot of gigs. It was a desicion by the entire band.

And wish you were here was made like 7 years after this.

because he got locked up in a crazy hospital.

PF with gilmore was better imo

Syd owns...but yeah the band made a decision for his departure.
