Rome: Total war > diplomacy > 1602 AD > Axis vs Allies > Civ series > darwinia.

I got rome total war for xmas 2004 and I sold it after I played it two times.

Rome Total War was only fun when I made thousands of peasants and made them march into highly trained force of elephant riders.

Lumines kicks ass.

R:TW is a fantastic game, all tactical really. & the diplomacy with the computers is quite deep as well. Online is a tad slow due to so many versions being out/ incompadibilities, but it still kicks ass.
