Actually, when I was in school, having the laptop during lectures was a lifesaver. I think it depends on the person. I type faster than I write, and having the notes digitally makes them easier to search/find later.

I haven't been in lectures where all you do is write what the professor says. In the courses I've taken, you can jot down small ideas and just look them up later and make notes that way. It engrains it in your head too since you aren't rushed later on while you write down the details. Even so, many professors put up powerpoint slides online so you can print them out and bring them to class if you choose. I guess that is more of a "larger university" characteristic rather than a small private college.

we had the same thing in alot of my classes, but instead of printing them out and complimenting them with writing; i would import them into microsoft office onenote (dedicated note taking program, it's fucking beautiful) and would add my own notes. it's alot easier when you can type almost three times as fast than writing which helps with those types of professors that rifle off important information. oh yeah, being able to browse the internet, isten to music and watch porn when you're bored in class is always plus.

17 may be a bit big. the chairs in 99% of my larger lectures were really cramped, making it somewhat difficult for me to use my 15.4.

Onenote ftw

I never wrote out everything he said, just the important stuff. Congrats that your professors coddle you with powerpoint presentations, I'm sure that's nice.
