D-Mac > Slaton

Dmac's stats are altered because he has another good back that he splits the duties with to throw off defenses

And don't forget the fact that Dmac plays in a way tougher conference than Slaton does.

I have heard this shit before.

Steve Slaton's Career stats Vs The SEC

52 Att 389 Yds 7.48 Avg 4 Tds

Again against Miss St Slaton had the same number of carries as D-Mac 26, but more than twice the yards. Slaton ran for 204 yds against the SEC conference champion Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

Numbers don't lie. Slaton > D-Mac

c312 05-01-2007 10:41 AM

What SEC teams did slaton play against? I am not sure, but I would say they are probably not the same strength teams that Arkansas played against, which would distort his numbers.

Arguing this is useless anyway, we'll see this year how both players do, I think they are both strong contenders for the Heisman.

Cpt. Obvious 05-01-2007 11:22 AM

My point was that Slaton and Mcfadden had one common opponent last year, Miss St. Slaton and Mcfadden both had 26 carries but Slaton racked up twice the yards.

Any your right it is pointless to argue about it. I was just trying to point out some facts. But if Steve and D-Mac both have great years D-Mac will when the Heisman because of the SEC bias.

You can't really base player potential and level of play on one game. They're both good players, and future first round (maybe top 10) draft picks.

you guys forgot about Yvenson

Cpt. Obvious 05-01-2007 12:09 PM

I looked over Yvenson' stats and he put up a lot of solid numbers but nothing compared to D-Mac or Slaton.

c312 05-01-2007 12:15 PM

yeah, it's just too hard to judge players especially when they play in different conferences, game plans (offensive and defensive schemes), etc... It just gets pointless. I mean, look at least year, the Heisman winner was beat out by how many quarterbacks in the draft? Quite a few. Being called "the best" is subjective to what people think at one time, there are too many players for it to have legitimate amount of certainty.

Same here. I noticed Yvenson had the lowest YPC of the top 20 rushers in the nation last year. Why is that? Does Orgeon State's O-line suck? He's a solid player no doubt, but even Felix Jones, who is Darren McFadden's backup, only trailed Yvenson by 200 yards and his YPC was much higher.

Right now McFadden and Slaton are far ahead of any of the other RBs in the country. Ian Johnson may be close, but his team plays against garbage every week.

I agree. D-Mac will definitely get drafted over Slaton because of his size. Denver will be the best fit for Slaton because they run a zone blocking scheme similar to WVU.

good point, they do have similar blocking, those smaller, faster zone block linemen at WVU are just like those at Denver, especially the guys from a few years back. What are the odds he gets drafted by them though? I assume he'll go pretty high if he stays healthy and I'm not sure, but I don't think Denver will be bad enough to get any of the real early picks. Either way, I think next year will be a good draft year, or at least an interesting one.
