My grandfather was a fighter pilot. The army wanted him to train other pilots, but he wanted to fly in the war. They told him that if he transferred to the war he'd have to fly cargo and passenger planes, so he put in for a transfer and that's what he did throughout the war.

He never talked about the war much, and died almost 12 years ago, so I can't ask him any more.

My Grandpa (mothers side)was a Military Policeman in WW2. He didnt see any action except for on the homefront here in Australia rounding up drunk Soldiers and Sailors, hehe. He's got some good stories, And I'm glad he's around still to tell me of the "good old days". My other Grandpa (obviously fathers side) fought in Papua New Guinea, I think. My dad hasnt said much about it. But I know he got some medals and I think was killed in action over there. I'm following in my Grandfathers footsteps and joining the Army next year. I'm looking forward to it.

Aletoledo: I know, it wuz soo close, thats wut drove him nutz.. He felt responsible for those men.

Also my grandpa on my moms side wuz a MP in the states. He had some great stories of drunken Americans. There were also German prisoners kept there but they were allowed to go to some of the parties. My granpa said the Jerry's would usually stick together and never say anything to any1. They would be all quiet.. My grandpa also told me of when around 2oclock in the morning they would bring in all the crazy Sgts and Lieutenants from France. "It was a pitiful sight" he said, those men were shaking and all shellshocked.

The only war story he had was when one of his freinds had been wounded in OMAHA! He came back and told the story to my grandpa. All that wounded recruit remebered was getting off the boat, an explosion blowing him sideways, his sgt screaming something, and another guys whole torso getting ripped apart by machinegun fire, then he remebers heat in the leg and passing out

My grandfather (Mom's side), Johhny Borden, served in the 9th Army Air Corps in Italy during the war. He wanted to fly on the B17 but because of a perforated ear drum the docs wouldn't let him fly.
One of his cousins was killed on Omaha Beach on D-Day.

My grandpa fought for the "Wehrmacht" because he was german http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif. He never talked about his experiences in war until one year before he died he startet to tell me all about his time in war and his life after that. My grandpa really had luck : one time he had to await his command where to go - Russian Front or somewhere else - and finally he was sent to Italy. In Italy he experienced funny things and he even had a girlfriend there http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif. But 1945 he had to help defending a german city, i guess it was "Heilbronn": he and his compagnion were crouching at a window and observing the street. Some minutes later American soldiers appeared down on the street and my grandpas compagnion started firing on them. A few seconds later the window broked and bullets destroyed the whole room ; they were only lying on the floor, hoping not to get hit and stay alive. In another scene he mentioned they were sitting in a whole. Next to them an US tank and some US soldiers were holding position. The german sergeant next to my grandpa dared to look out of the whole and fell down. headshot.
My grandpa even got the rank "Kompanieführer", so he had to lead about 150 soldiers. I guess he wasnt too happy about that http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/frown.gif
In the end of the war my grandpa became prisoner. He was glad to be prisoner of the Americans http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif because there he could survive.

My Grandma's Uncle (I don't know what he is to me) was a "Desert Rat" in WW2. He brought back a Luger, a German Iron Cross (a bit dishonourable- corpse raiding), a swastiker and a little wooden camel (don't know where that came from)

My grandfather, Harold Chadwick was in the USArmy in WW2. He was definately a very comemorated troop. His group had traveled through Germany and France.

He had killed several Nazi Generals (Nazi Generals used to where these very large silver shields on their chests to signify ranks...my granfather had 5 of them)...

He even received a letter from Mother Thereasa which I have seen. Apparently his group had entered into a small town in Germany which was leveled...but several small children and women were alive...so his group, fed, and offered medical aid to these people...saving lives. Mother Thereasa got wind of this and wrote his group a letter..each received a letter adressed by name.

He died about 4 years ago of heart conditions...and in his memory we had created a very large collage with all of his medals and honors...

I thank him for his efforts and fighting for us...if he hadnt...I could very well be speaking German by now...

Wouldn't that be a shame !?

I think what you meant to say was that you were very happy the allies won the war, otherwise we'd all be living in a fascist world devoid of all but caucasian (non-jewish) cultures and liberty ?

Of itself, german is a beautiful language and should not be frowned upon because of a tyrannical dictator (what a redundancy)..

Sorry... my rant ends here. <--

i think its a figure of speach . nothing more nothing less . i dont think when people say that , they are bashing the german language . its just like saying if mike tyson didnt spend all that time in jail , he wouldnt have learned to bite people's ears off and want to eat children .
