I was a junior in high school and was getting my braces off when the Coalition forces began the air-strikes on Iraq. I just remember watching it every night on the news.

I was a freshman in HS.

i was 6 but i still remember watching TV with my dad and seeing live footage on the ground during a battle or right after a battle.

Yep, vividly. Those night vision images from reporters in Baghdad when the air war started will never leave my mind. It was something I had never seen before and something I will never again forget. It was all that was on the TV, constant CNN, NBC, BBC coverage. I was sort of pissed off because all the normal TV programming had been discontinued because of the war and nothing fun was on .....but I quickly became interested in the news and was basically stuck infront of the TV watching a war play out in realtime on TV, it was quite amazing actually.

The SCUDs raining down on Israel was saddening, watching the Patriot missle batteries launch up at the incoming SCUDs was a sight to see. Just remembering how close Israel came to launching nukes at Iraq was very scary, but really, who could blame them. Watching US and British troops walking around in NBC gear was a weird sight, having worn one, I cant believe they were actually prepared to fight in them, but then the threat of anthrax and all those other goodies our old lovable teddy bear Saddam had was always good enough reason for them to wear those suits, I heard the innoculations they received were pretty painful, some guys arms swelled up like footballs and bruised badly, and then there were the funny stories of soldiers being scared of becoming infertile because of those shots they recieved. Many soldiers were reassured by others who wanked on a regular basis. biggrin:

It was the perfect war. Constant media coverage and support from most Western Nations, highly motivated, better trained and better equiped troops. No wonder it was a major success.

I was watching The Dukes of Hazzard with my brother. They were in the middle of the episode and the General Lee had just started up the jump ramp to jump over whatever was in the way.

They went to an ad break, and the Gulf War started.

Yeah i remember the night vision cameras over bagdad, totally surreal, it is funny that you still see beauty in the horror of war. I was about 5 at the time. Anybody remember when clinton launched airstrikes in iraq in '95?

yea i remember that. I dont even think we hit anything.

it was fun to watch them waste the ammo tho considering i think all we used was ship launched TLAMs and a couple F-117s

You have just worded this pretty much as i was about to say. I was 9 at the time and remember it as you do, and most vividly the night vision live attacks, and then the AA guns lighting up the sky in the attempt to hit our jets. It was the first time i ever started watching the news, and i followed it from day one and yes, it was quite amazing to watch unfold. I loved watching the fighters on patrols filming each other with camcorders and waving to each other, and my amazment when i saw tanks leave the ground going fast over bumps. I never knew tanks were that powerful until then.......maybe they were watching dukes of hazard too and thought not to dissapoint wolf-man.
