Not WWII but "The Green Berets" was an awesome movie

I forgot about Big Red One... There are so many...

I used to wacht WWII movies with my dad. He'd never talk about his experiences in the war, but he sure as hell would go off on some the things that were wrong with those movies.

Bleed_4_Me 10-24-2002 12:29 PM

Long as hell but BoB is the best. I'm asking Santa Claus (WTF That's Me) for it! freak:

If you're Santa Clause, then who am I?

Nice edit, I was wonder what BiB vest was.

probably because it is more real events and less "we have to find this one guy because he's the only one of his family still alive",
that and Stephen Ambrose wrote Band of Brothers.

Sergeant John W Martin 10-25-2002 10:12 AM

it got to be out of SPR and BoB but in the end i chosse BoB becuase it really touched me seing those old men telling the story and seeing them cry and things.............

=BA-MF=LoneGunner65=2nd=c 10-27-2002 02:03 AM

No wonder BOB is winning and i cant believe the other two movies arnt even gettin votes. LOL feel sorry for them.

PFC. Berquist 10-27-2002 09:33 PM

Saving Private Ryan, by far. Next is BOB or To Hell and Back.

Bane 10-28-2002 08:33 AM

I saw Windtalkers over the weekend. That movie is a steaming pile. The acting is horrible, especially the first battle sequence.

I applaud the idea behind it, but the cons far outway the pros.

Two thumbs down.

=BA-MF=LoneGunner65=2nd=c 10-28-2002 08:45 AM

I agree it never came with the WW2 outlook or anykind of affects. Now SPR that was a good WW2 movie that came with outlooks so did BOB thier both good WW2 movies but most of the older users on Alliedassault tend to go for the older movies those movies in black and whight or others something like that like Bridge to far i herd that was a good WW2 movie. So most other older ppl vote for older WW2 movies then the ones that already came out.

ninty 10-28-2002 09:36 AM

A bridge too far was a great movie. I have it on DVD. I'm not that old either. eek: If you haven't seen it, see it. Good movie.

=BA-MF=LoneGunner65=2nd=c 10-28-2002 09:38 AM

See i was right most ppl like the old WW2 movies. I gotta see those ones if i could find them at Blockbuster or something.

ninty 10-28-2002 09:40 AM

Both SPR and BOB were better than A bridge too far, but it was still a great movie. I would choose BOB of SPR over ABTF.

Like all those acronyms? oOo:

One of the older movies that successully combines action with historical accuracy is The Devil's Brigade. At first I thought it was pure Hollywood, then I saw a History Channel special on the 1stSSF and realised they got it pretty much how it was in The Devil's Brigade.

Another older movie that is accurate and fun is teh one where Audie Murphy plays himself (title has hell in it, To Hell and Back or Hell is For Heroes or something)

The Longest Day is pretty accurate tries to portray not only the Americans but also the British, Germans, Free French, and the French Resistance. However some find this movie to be somewhat boring nowadays.
But like any John Wayne war film, it is really good.

Some good movies which aren't really accurate historically but you'll get a kick watching:

Kelly's Heroes,
Where Eagles Dare,
Force Ten From Navarone,
Dirty Dozen

I have The Longest Day also. Its like 3 hours. Pretty long so it can get tedious. But it is an overall good depiction and good movie.

=BA-MF=LoneGunner65=2nd=c 11-04-2002 09:55 AM

No wonder its called the longest day if its 3 hours long.

my history teacher in junior year called it The Longest Movie

Pfc.Green 11-04-2002 10:42 AM

'Sink the Bismark'

Bazooka_Joe 11-04-2002 12:44 PM

BoB was a series, but was based on a true story. SPR was based on true EVENTS. The storyline was real, but the characters were different, and not everything they went through happened to THEM, but it happened in the war.

Tripper 11-04-2002 01:05 PM

It's so sad in SPR when Captain Miller dies!

"James..James....Earn This.......Earn It."

You guys are all forgetting WHEN TRUMPETS FADE! Its my favourite, right up there with SPR and BoB....

My List of good old war movies:

Anzio (Not so realistic, but a very fun movie)
Bridge At Remagen (First use of shaky cam technique, good film)
Guns Of Navarone (Nice adventure film)
The Great Escape (The classic)
Von Ryan's Express (Sinatra and a train full of P.O.W's...GREAT fun)

=BA-MF=LoneGunner65=2nd=c 11-08-2002 10:29 AM

It looks like BOB will take the win.

bukdez 11-08-2002 12:28 PM

everybody watch Kelly's Heroes, sweet WWII flick, BoB is the best on that list, Pearl Harbor? thats like saying Titanic was a good disaster movie, lol... all the old classics rule

RandomSkater 11-09-2002 07:33 AM

i hope the library here gets the BOB dvds. i dont hvae the cash to buy em cry:

Capt. Albright 11-09-2002 09:06 PM

i know these aren't ww2 movies but what do you guys think of Blackhawk Down and We Were Soldiers?

Innoxx 11-09-2002 09:28 PM

Cool weapons, no acting, faceless enemies. sleep:

Tripper 11-09-2002 09:41 PM

The definition of a war film.

Name more than one film that doesn't have faceless enemies.

Innoxx 11-09-2002 09:43 PM

Staingrad, an indie flick called the red triangle, thin red line, enemy at the gates and the list goes on.

Tripper 11-09-2002 09:48 PM

Thats 4 movies, out of, what? 600 war films?

Thin red line? Hardly.

The rest are all eastern front....The point about all those movies is to show how inhumane the fighting was there, therefore you need to base it on two sides....They don't count. biggrin:

Old Reliable 11-09-2002 09:50 PM

i got when trumpets fade for free with band of brothers, is it good?

Innoxx 11-09-2002 09:50 PM

I'm still better than you, my mom said so.

Old Reliable 11-09-2002 09:51 PM

i can't stand enemy at the gates...they speak english

Innoxx 11-09-2002 09:52 PM

Yeah true, I didn't like the movie that much.

Tripper 11-09-2002 09:55 PM

When Trumpets Fade is a very cool movie....Hurtgen Forest battle.

Innoxx 11-09-2002 09:58 PM

It is a good movie, one of the best, but you people don't know that because niether tom hanks, tom seizmore, or mel gibson is in that movie

Old Reliable 11-09-2002 09:58 PM

Awesome I can't wait to watch it then...why are no replies showing up on the thread page

nevermind there they are ha

Miscguy 11-09-2002 10:06 PM

Personally i like alot of old war movies. Patton, The Longest Day, A Bridge to far. Great stuff. My vote goes to A Bridge To Far.

"Im sorry, we havnt the means to accept your surrender."

Great line... if only it were real.

"Nuts" muhahahaha
