If the war was allowed to continue until that time without the immense bombing campaign shared by the US and Britain, dont be so sure that the allies would have won the war at all.

And who do you think will be using these weapons? The Germans used old man and kids in their army, by 1950 I guess they'll be using trained monkeys to run these jets, or zombies like in Wolfenstein.

I'm relatively certain Hitler was bordering on bringing the dead back to life.

That, or he was just a crazy gay carpet munching psycho faggot.

Either way, I want to shoot at dogs who can drive halftracks. Would you really deny me that?

(Actually spooge, to be serious for a moment, the troop numbers fighting the germans would have been about half a million less, so Hitler probably could have extended the fighting force for far longer...)

An excellent author on the two world wars is Paul Fussell. Keegan's best book is his first, The Face of Battle.

IHAVENOFRIENDS - You raised much ire because of the offensiveness of your remarks, particularly at a time such as this, when the Brits have once again proven themselves invaluable allies to the US.

Your attitude of American superiority is naive and shared by the nationalists of, for instance, Nazi Germany, or the Roman Empire, or the British Empire at its peak. Remember: any nation's role in history is ephemeral.

Ambrose is the so-called historian (now proven a plagarist) who wrote the book upon which Private Ryan was based; he all but ignores the role of the Brits, Canadians, Scots, and treats the invasion as if it were solely an American show. To say that the American's fed the Brits during the dark days of the war has truth, but a more accurate interpretation is that the Brits FOUGHT for us and we fed them.

Albow0001 01-06-2002 05:37 AM

Here's a story i think you should hear more:

In the early days of the war, before Pearl Harbour, the Americans had agree not to give any materials to other countries that Germany was fighting.
So, at a place within 50 feet of the American/Canadian border, planes, tanks, and munitions would be stored. Canadians would then cross the 50 feet of border, take the planes or tanks or munitions, and drag them across to the other side of the border, where they would then ship them out to where they were needed.

Just think that's a little story we should all hear.

8827Echo 01-06-2002 05:57 AM

It ain't nonsense.

Taken from Second World War New Edition by Martin Gilbert, Page 67 (middle of the page):

Unable to breach American neutrality by shipping aircraft to Britain uncrated and ready to fly, Roosevelt himself proposed, on the night of May 15, a way round a surviving provision in the Neutrality Act. This was to fly the aircraft to the American side of the Canadian border, 'push' them across the border, then fly them on to Newfoundland, where they could by put on board a ship. 'We already know', Purvis reported to London, 'this method is legal and feasible.'

Ketil 01-06-2002 05:58 AM

The Neutrality Acts of the mid - 1930's had forbidden trade in armaments with any nation at war no matter the justice of its cause. The first breach in the wall of this isolationist legislation came immediately after the outbreak of war in September 1939 when a special session of the Congress approved "cash and carry" amendments which allowed the Allies to purchase war supplies-provided that they paid cash and used their own ships to carry them back to Europe. Following the fall of France in June 1940, American opinion shifted more decisively in favor of "all aid short of war" for embattled Britain. Rather than urge repeal of the Neutrality Acts, internationalists belonging to the Committee to Defend America by Aiding the Allies suggested another half - way measure. The idea was to "trade destroyers for bases." On his own authority in September 1940, President Roosevelt agreed to provide Great Britain with 50 overage US destroyers for convoy duty in the North Atlantic. In return, the US was granted 99 - year leases for American naval and air bases in British possessions-from Newfoundland to British Guiana-in the Western Hemisphere. Initially, the deal was of little military significance because it took time for the British to refit the ships and train crews to operate them. Politically, however, it helped neutralize isolationist opposition by allowing the Roosevelt Administration to argue that the US had made "a shrewd bargain" strengthening Western Hemisphere defenses. It also provided a precedent and opening for an even greater departure in 1941.

2. Lend - Lease

On December 17, 1940, Prime Minister Churchill informed the US that Britain would soon run out of financial resources to buy desperately needed war material under the "cash and carry" provisions. Twelve days later, President Roosevelt delivered a "fireside chat" explaining to the American people why he wanted "to eliminate the dollar sign" from the Anglo - American relationship. He used this famous illustration: "Suppose my neighbor's house catches fire and I have a length of garden hose four or five hundred feet away. If he can take my garden hose and connect it up with his hydrant, I may help him put out the fire....I don't say to him before that operation, 'Neighbor, my hose cost me fifteen dollars; you have to pay me fifteen dollars for it.' No, I don't want fifteen dollars-I want my garden hose back after the fire is over." To help the Allies "put out the fire" of Nazi aggression, Roosevelt introduced on January 10, 1941, the Lend - Lease Bill authorizing the President to lend or lease armaments with no repayment in cash or kind expected until after the war. On March 11th, Congress approved the program with an initial $7 billion appropriation-that Churchill called "the most unsordid act in the history of any nation."

3. Aid to Britain

It took six months for Lend - Lease to really come "on line, " and such aid accounted for only 10f the arms and munitions used by Britain during the whole of 1941 during which food and fuel shipments from the US were more important. From 1942 on, however, Lend - Lease supplies to Britain ultimately totaling over $20 billion-were critical to the United Kingdom's war effort.

We started selling to the Brits in 1939, I have found no records of an agreement not to sell materiels to countries fighting Germany.
Nice reply by the way, profanity is the last argument of the weak mind.

8827Echo 01-06-2002 05:59 AM

So there. Don't believe it still? Then go sue Martin Gilbert.

I havent found anything on selling things to Germany and countries that supported it, but the "story" is real...

Shut up you

jonesy-the-cat 01-06-2002 07:20 AM

ROFL. This thread is hilarious! Some comments on the preceding posts...

Americans only know what's in books? Comic books maybe. We only know what's in movies, tv, and video games. The newest generation is 'learning' history from Saving Ryan's Privates and Medal of Dishonor: Affront to Academics. Saying you went to the 3rd best school in America is like saying you trained under the 3rd best chef in Britain, or the 3rd best automobile engineer in France. As they say...

Heaven is a place where:
The lovers are Italian
The cooks are French
The mechanics are German
The police are English
The government is run by the Swiss

Hell is a place where:
The lovers are Swiss
The cooks are English
The mechanics are French
The police are German
The government is run by the Italians

Did the Allies really win WW2? Or did the Axis lose? Both sides made so many mistakes it was more of a race to see who could throw the fight sooner. Maybe if Hitler hadn't tried for the whole world at once, and Japan hadn't attacked the US. If they consolidated their holdings for a few years...

Who was the best? Shame on you for thinking that way. All did their part and deserve equal respect. That goes for the john waynes, the dudley do rights, the crocodile hunters, the willie shakespeares, the skirt-wearing golfers, the polka dancers, the vodka chuggers, the rice eaters (who everyone above forgot), and yes the krauts and nips. Everyone except maybe the pepe le peus. They just pretty much surrendered at the first sign of resistance and immediately went underground, apparently to bake bread. They were more like a speed bump. And I think it's safe to say the Swiss and Swedish were definitely not in the top 3 biggest influences on the outcome. Wait, was it the Swedish or the Norwegians... or the Danish, or... whatever they're all the same anyway.

Don't forget the contribution of the Jamaicans. "Yah, mon!" Gotta have them in the game too. Mission: to defeat a mansion full of partying Nazis by locking them in and shoving huge smoking joints in the windows.

And every "real", "respected", "unbiased" historian knows that the Scottish invented The Bomb. At least that's what my Scottish friend told me.

Actually, if you do your research I think you will find that the biggest contribution was made by those 2 guys who loved the same girl. They grew up together, one joined the British air force, they thought he got killed so the other one impregnated his girlfriend... you know the ones I'm talking about? The pretty much singlehandedly drove off the Japanese at Pearl Harbor, went on to sack Tokyo, and led the allies to victory in Europe.

Someone take this ball and run with it: what would be some good sound clips for the other allies? Hmm...

British: (have Hugh Grant do the voice) "I don't suppose you would, um... *sips tea* I don't suppose you would be so good as to die, would you?"

Canadian: (voice by Dave Thomas) "Take off you hosers!" *throws beer can*

Jamaican: "I'm goin' ta kick your butt all ova diss place... *takes puff* as soon as I finish dis joint!"

Scottish: "Yer lucky I wasn't tryin that time, ye wee shirt-lifters!" *waves fist, chuggs a pint*

Chinese: "You want egg roll with that?" *bows repeatedly*

Seriously tho, someone should at least take sound clips and make a funny mod.

And if you could try to keep the size of your posts down.

Just having fun with ya. Don't take it seriously. Love yall.

01-06-2002 08:28 AM

Mohaa is great and all but there are a few things that are just really dumb, like I know the game claims that it is a "Allied" assault but all you see are americans, I know its a american company who created the game but come on people, why dont they just call it "Medal of Honor:American Assault" Where are all the other Commonwealth soldiers and everyone else?!

Saintholgi 01-06-2002 08:31 AM

yupp that sux, i would like a map like this: you start with your group then, you meet other groups in a city then you run towards the city and take down the enemy and finally Hitler lol.

01-06-2002 08:33 AM

yah exactly, for instance:

you are a american squad of 8 guys... then you meet a squad of brits and pols, and then canadians, and some aussie's and new zelanders http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/wink.gif

IHaveNOFriendsAndISuck 01-06-2002 08:37 AM

dude, i hate to say it, but America's entry into WW2 was the begining of the end for Nazi Germany and Japan. WW2 was definetly a joint effort; Russia, Brittian, Canada,Free French,Free Poles, etc. But without America the war would have been over very quickly. America had, and still has, the superior man power, superier factories, and superier technology. An invasion of Europe would have never happened without the U.S., what would have happened instead was a second attempt at an invasion of Great Brittain by Germany.

Saintholgi 01-06-2002 08:39 AM

Maybe that, but now we talking about this game , it would be fun to play with the others ( brits and pols, and canadians, and aussie's and new zelanders ) ... On a map..

Let me guess you are american? Who took the Enigma machine eh? Who invented Radar? Who held out and won the battle of Britian? If the brits didn't do all this and more americans would have done what exactly? driven theor Higgins boats across the Entire Atlantic Ocean? For Sure eh? typical American Pompass attitude?
