true if you do over heat the card that heat isn't just going affect the that card. It will afect the other cards as well and total your computer if you can't vent the heat faster then the heat is produced bigzooka: M16:

In my experiance, the vid cards will not overheat enough to even raise your case temp if you have good airflow. The gpu is suspended away from any other components and as a rule, the pci slot next to your agp slot should be left empty. If you dont have an agp slot, dont bother overclocking, its hopeless. They also tend to sit right near the exhaust vents on most cases. All gpus I have oc'ed (ti4200 64mb and a gf2pro) will give plenty of warning before they damage themselves, much less anything around them. Again, if you get nervous about any of this, overclocking is not for you.

Not nesscessarily. Particles and distorment are the start, but without optimum cooling, your actually burning the filaments in the GPU. This is real bad for the card. If you have a recent video card (I'd say GF4 or RADEON series), the card should by default just turn off, hence you crash or freeze. But older cards are not all guranteed to do this.

Baby steps are the second rule for overclocking. The first rule is dont overclock if you cant afford to replace the hardware if anything goes wrong. With cpu oc'ing, more can go wrong and you could lose more, including any data on your hardrrive.[/quote:f7573]

Yeah, this is true too. I'm just not that confident in overclocking GPUs compared to CPUs.

Ever since I corrupted my windows install thanks to overclocking, I feel that way about cpu overclocking. I was able to fix the problem and save my data with $80 for a new HDD and a fresh windows install, but I lost several days of my life screwing around with it. Hell, for that amount of time, aggravation and money, I could buy a faster cpu that would give me as much performance increase as I got oc'ing (about 10%).
