yeah, the book was good. And whoever said they said it made the Germans look dumb when n one got killed in episode 5 part, is wrong. It happened, in the book they said no one was killed except Dukeman at the night attack

I think he is refering to the part where the baker wouldn't give bread because they were jews and they just took the bread.

k-i-a 05-12-2003 02:03 AM

He is a fan of saving private ryan and that kind of stuff. he is just getting into aa and sh 2. I dont no how he won it!

Tripper 05-12-2003 03:14 AM

That episode where they came across the concentration camp was amazing. Beautifully acted, well written.

But I have to say my favourite one is when DJ forgot Kimmy's birthday, and they showed pictures at the end.'

.....Or the one when the Fonz says: "Hey, Malph, sit on it!"

Oddball 05-12-2003 03:32 AM

When they were trying to clear the blocked road in the last episode (I think) and they were using bazookas aimed at a pile of grenades to try and clear the path.

I don't know why but it looked really funny and seemed they were doing it for just the hell of it.

(all clickable, DivX required to play)

I also like the scene where the girls sees Bull killing the German soldier in a shed in Holland.

Impressive: The episode with the concentration camp.

I agree, it was well written. I think they did well by bringing the book into a film! And i also liked at the end with the guys that survived if u no what i meen.

guarnere 05-13-2003 02:15 AM

i think its a great part when Blythe gets all riled up, and stops being scared to fight...and shoots the one german guy...and then followed him to see where he passed...i think that showed the viewer the other side of a soldier....the remorsefull side, and how he was......i guess you could say..."sad", about taking another mans life...i dunno..that was a really good part IMO

k-i-a 05-13-2003 02:18 AM

Are you talking about that bit where he only shot one person threw the whole war? And killed that younge nazi soldier?

Ferich 05-13-2003 02:19 AM

I thought The Thin Red Line was way better than Band of Brothers. The Movie and the Book.

Tripper 05-13-2003 02:20 AM

..........

Please don't post anymore.

Oddball 05-13-2003 07:42 AM

Thin Red Line was SOOOO gay in my opinion.

Firstly there were a lot of celebrities popping up in roles that had like 5 lines. It seemed that they were just trying to get a war movie down on their resumé. I thought at least one of them would be the lead role but hake:

The poetic voice overs made no sense and I coudn't really follow it.
The AWOL soldier was really dumb, I don't know why he tried to raise his gun when surrounded by Japanese.

Also when the Americans were running through the Japanese camp it just looked stupid cos they were owning them, almost certainly there would have been some form of internal defences.

Hard to keep track of all the characters, would focus on many people and hard to identify a protagonist.

Also the crazy soldier had interesting things to say but didn't bring the message of the futility of war across effectively. IMO when they were running through the grass getting mortared said far more about war than some shell shocked soldier.

Also I think the movie was the director's first in 20 years or something....ummm hard film to come back on.

I think Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan and even Windtalkers were far better anti war films (out of the recent war movies anyway).

I know The Thin Red Line doesn't slam anti war in your face and tries to be subtle but I couldn't see the reality or find convincing acting to bring the message across.

Also another fav BoB moment is when George Luz fool Sobel into thinking he's the Colonel.

geRV 05-13-2003 09:15 AM

Another great part was blithe firing like 13 rounds from an 8 round m1 garand clip..... oOo:

Zoner 05-13-2003 09:17 AM

The book was great, but the movie didn't do it for me.

That was episode 3, Carentan.

I hadn't noticed it before, but indeed.

First, he fires 8 shots, the clip is ejected (that is, you hear the sound); without reloading, he fires another 5 shots or so. Guess he reloaded between 2 takes, biggrin:

In that same apisode, a tank runs over somebody and cracks his head. For me, this was by far the most ghastly scene in the entire series.

Yeah, you really have to like Poetry or good cinematography to like it. Honestly, the only reason I like it is because it wasn't a very popular movie, and I read the book in like 1997 when I was in middle school.

Harlen Maguire 05-14-2003 03:10 AM

I have mixed views on The Thin Red Line...

While I adore the films cinematography, score, acting and all-round design... There doesn't seem to be much "emotional core"...

However, saying that...

As an overall film, The Thin Red Line fails... however, sequences, moments from it, far surpass anything seen in any of the Spielberg produced dramas...

If anyone wants any examples I'd be pleased to give them... The entire hill sequence (Hill 412, I think it was) is far more harrowing to me than Saving Private Ryan's opening sequence...

Just an opinion.

The Thin Red Line is a failure, but a hell of an honourable one. 8/10.

Ferich 05-14-2003 03:35 AM

Hill 210. Read the book.
