Then of course, she went over Gould, and his study on IQ tests, etc.

I guess I came out thinking IQ tests were entirely a joke.

Just curiously - How accurate is Mensa's IQ test...? Also, could j00 direct me to an ACCURATE online IQ test? I wanna see where I stand.

Psychometricians like Xavier Jouve are moving away from traditional ways of
testing "intelligence" and are now concentrating on designing a pictoral-type
examination free of any cultural bias, similar to the Raven's.

Mensa's test ISN'T accurate in the sense that much verbal and mathematical
knowledge is required to successfully "pass" it. Funny story: they gave me a
Ravens matrices as preliminary and then the abovementioned as real tests.
If you want good online tests, go take the following:

http://www.iqtest.dk (Similar to the RAPM II)
http://www.highiqsociety.org (The culture-free)
http://www.cerebrals.com/testing.htm (Test of Inductive Reasoning)

I would suggest the European IQ test but it's strongly biased towards the
mathematically-inclined, so the above should be enough. I get the same
sigma range (2.5 to 2.7 sigma) on all of them so they were well normed.

LOL, reading this topic made me think of the movie Canadian Bacon with John Candy in it were America goes to war with Canada so we could make some money and all the Canadians are stupid and say "Eh!" a lot. Thatd be funny if something like that really happened...I first saw the movie when I was really little and for the longest time thought it was a real war...LOL

Heh.. please don't think that my having a high IQ makes me one of the smartest people in the world. It just means that logical and abstract problem solving comes very easily to me.

We have just as many dumbasses per capita as the US does. SO THERE!

Zen, I lived in Birmingham from the age of 17 until I was 29. I wholeheartedly disagree with your characterization of the city of Birmingham and of Alabama. I enjoyed living there and never saw any reason to classify it as "a place of deep Racism and Hate". The problems that happened in Birmigham that led to this stereotype happened 40 years ago. Judge the city on what it is today, not in the past. I also lived in Chicago from age 37 to 42. Chicago is a great city but I would much rather live in Birmingham if given the choice. The people are friendlier. Chicago folks are friendly too, but generally only after they get to know you. In Birmingham, and Alabama in general, the folks are friendly even when they pass a stranger on the street, regardless of the color of said stranger.

I'm not trying to be offensive Col. , hell it was over 20 years ago.

I was just trying to make a point about judging poeple on apperance and where they came from.

Colonel 12-12-2003 12:27 PM

Roger that Zen. No offense taken. I just had to stand up for B'ham 'cause it's one of my favorite towns in these old United States of America. (of course, it has been over 20 years ago since I lived there too. It is entirely possible that both of us lived there at the same time and our individual experiences left us with opposite impressions of the same city - but like I said, I had to stick up for the Magic City) biggrin: beer:
