Does anyone know the difference between the X-35 and the F-22 Raptor?

[quote="Bean 2":3d20e]Does anyone know the difference between the X-35 and the F-22 Raptor?[/quote:3d20e]

totally different machines,
the F-22 is a twin-engine US Air Force air superiority fighter,
the F-35 is a Air Force, Navy, and Marine multi-purpose single-engine fighter (fighter-bomber really).
The various branches will have slightly different versions, the Navy's version is reinforced to carrier landing, the Marine version has a lift fan for V-TOL, the Air Force version isn't burdened by these things and can carry more weapons or have better performance with same weapons.

Bullshit. Everyone knows Chuck Jaeger (or however you spell his last name) was the first man to break the sound barrier.

ninty 02-21-2004 06:08 PM

My mistake.

First Canadian plane to break the sound barrier.

On record still today the X-15 is still and will be for at least 20 years the fastest plane ever. It went mach 6.5. But it was more of a Rocket

correct, that plane holds the overall speed record

for you airplane buffs, the fastest PRODUCTION plane was the SR-71 at Mach 3.5,
fastest COMBAT plane (meaning it can carry weapons) was the Mig-25 at Mach 3.2

Uh.. what are you on? The F22 is equipt with Supercruise engines. This means the the F22 can cruise at supersonic speeds without use of an afterburner. It also does have an afterburner. Notice the word "cruise" most aircraft cant sustain the speeds of the F22 with the fuel economy.

The YF-23 was faster at mach 2 (F-22's top speed is mach 1.8)
The F-22 was more manuverable, easier to maintain and slightly cheaper than the YF-23.

And the latest F-15's top speed is 2.5 so neither are faster than it.

The F-15 to me is still a greater fighter then both.
