Sure, marriage is just a word to them, but to me it's much more than that. And if, to them, it's just a word, what's the big deal with calling it something else?

You can still believe in God and be a homosexual at the same time. Religion is changing all the time so for you to take a firm stance on this is premature. 500 years ago the only Christians were Catholic. Now there are Protestants, presbyterians, Born agains, Mormons, Quakers, etc. For someone to be a true Christian nowadays you basically have to believe in Jesus. This, however, is besides the point. This country is supposed to seperate its legislative thinking from religion. Marriage is available to the public and thus should be seperated from church, thats why you can get married in city hall. The marriage license is a public document signed by a government official. For a body of government to deny the said public license to anyone because of their sexual orientation is discriminatory and therefore unconstitutional. There are times when you have to put your emotions and religious observances aside and do what is best for your country. These people are our citizens, they pay taxes, vote, can be drafted, and are human beings. This has nothing to do with religion and should not be viewed as one form of thinking being overruled by another. It is a simple solution to just call them 'civil unions' but that would just be treating them differantly from everyone else, or in other words, discriminant.

I don't believe that's what he meant by saying marriage was the cornerstone of civilization. Marriage between a man and a woman (which typically leads to reproduction...) is the cornerstone. Find me two gay people who can reproduce and I'll be fine with letting them call their union "marriage."[/quote:c7580]

Two gay people cant reproduce themselves, but neither can some two married couples. Should a couple be denied a marriage license if they cant bear any children?

Let the faggots/lesbians get the license, but for Gods sake don't call it marriage.

mad: It doesn't matter if it is a man and man, man and woman, or woman and woman... the fact is we have the constitution, its amendments, and the bill of rights that clearly state, that we have the right of pursuit of happiness... it doesn't state only if you want to marry the opposite sex. Who are we to tell people or make laws that tell people that what they believe in, how they feel, and who they love is wrong.
I don't give a flying fuck what the bible says; just because the bible says that 2 men should not sleep in the same bed DOES NOT make it wrong. There are all other types of religions and people who do not believe in religion.
It is stuffing some stupid inbred bible thumpers believe down the throat of every single American if it happens. I don't want a religious group telling me that if I marry a woman (I am not gay but beside the point) that I am a bad person, that I should not have the rights of every heterosexual person out there. Just because someone falls in love with someone of the same sex doesn't mean they should be DISCRIMIATED against. It is like telling me since I am a woman I should not vote; it is saying that African Americans should still not have civil rights.
If this happens Bush is going to make us move back 70 years. We have only gotten half as far as we should be and another dumbass Bush is going to set us back once again...
I am sorry about the language but this really gets to me... there are too many people out there that want this and too many people out there that stay together longer than a heterosexual couples that should DESERVE the same rights as everyone else!!!! mad:

RELIGION SHOULD HAVE NO PART OF THIS LAW!!! Not everyone believes in the same things, churches are cults, to have someone tell you how to live your life, tell you to give them money (for god eek: ) and tell you what to believe in.
I believe in god, but I also believe that I live my life to the fullest and how I want to, I don't need someone to tell me how to do it.

*I am not trying to offend anyone but this should not be a religious battle since the church should have NO say in what a LAW is!* period! separation of church and state, the government is supposed to be bias on this, not just try to get the religious votes!

I will say this again,

Let the faggots/lesbians get the "license" but don't call it marriage. Nor should they be allowed to get "union" in a church. A man and a women getting married, IN A CHURCH has been a sacred thing for thousands of years as stated before in this thread, letting homos derail that is not right.

Fine, then they can get married at city hall then. Like I said earlier, marriage isnt a Christian exclusive thing, so whats the problem if they get married at city hall?

Zap tell me why, Homosexuals go to church, they pay there 15% and for what to be told NO~ It is ridiculous how narrow minded some people can be... I am not trying to change anyone's minds because I know people believe what they want (or what they are told to) but the fact is... until people can stop calling them faggots, flamers, queers, dikes, lesbo's ... list goes on.... this country will stay the same way it has... until people can see that everyone is made up of the same matter but has different thoughts... people will continue to be stupid. Just because someone tells you or makes you believe that it is wrong.. doesn't mean that it is wrong to everyone... and people need to get over themselves and let this country move forward instead of backwards~!

Jesus, wake the fuck up! Faggots who go to church are clearly wasting thier time, because as you know it CLEARLY states in the bible that a relationship between a man/man and a woman/woman is WRONG and IS NOT TOLERATED! Faggots/lesbians going to church? How contradictory is THAT? rolleyes:

Wow.. I think I just got called an inbred Bible thumper.. and a cultist...

Anyway. Do any of you truly believe that the moral and ethical standards of this country are better now than when the country was founded? I mean come on, seriously. Back then crime was non-existant. Granted, there were mistakes made.. slavery, oppression of women. But they also had a lot of things right.

I just think that George Washington is probably rolling over in his grave right now. Back in those days, people didn't even consider a life without religion. When they wrote the Constitution, and drafted bills into law, they were basing it on the prevailing Christian beliefs. The whole purpose of the part about Separation of Church and State was to prevent running into the same problems as were seen in England where the government was mandating that all citizens attend the Church of England and only the Church of England.

But now, we have these fanatics like the ACLU who are running around and practically raping the Constitution with its own good intentions. I mean, the country was founded on Christian morals and ethics, the very basis of Christianity is woven more tightly amongst our government and laws than most would care to believe. And now just look at our country unravelling as these radicals do their best to undo what has for the past 200 years made America the greatest and most powerful country in the world. Look at the crime rates skyrocket. Watch as ethics fly out the window. Observe with pity as all sense of morality fleets from our society. People are now more concerned with driving an SUV and having a 401(k) than they are about spending an hour with their children, who are instead raised by a babysitter and see their parents for fifteen minutes a day. Not that the fifteen minutes is worth anything, because they've been working 10 hours in order to finance the house that's twice as big as they really need.

Anyone who says this country isn't spiraling down the shitter is either stupid or plain ignorant. And if you want to deny that it's because of these radicals stripping the public of all religious reference - and therefore removing their moral compass (the basics of United States law were based on the Ten Commandments and parts of the Hammurabi) - that's fine.

And just to take this a step further, take note of the European countries that our local liberals try so desperately to mimic. Germany, for instance, which has an incredible track record concerning crime, has one of the most religious populations in Europe. Religion is a huge influence in European culture, and because people accept it as part of life, not because it's mandated by the government.

I'm done ranting. It's not like I can stop anything anyway. You liberals just keep fucking up the country for us all. Honestly, the majority of the country whom you circumvent really appreciate it. I'll just move to Fiji or something. Hope you selfish prats see yourselves for the self-centered institution you are and start listening to what the MAJORITY of citizens have to say.

Granted, there were mistakes made.. slavery, oppression of women. But they also had a lot of things right.

Where did crime come in all of a sudden? None of what you had just said has anything to do with the topic at hand. Although your point being the deterioration of morality in America, I thought it was funny how you downplayed the 'mistakes' of slavery and oppression. I mean, yeah we kidnapped millions of people from their homes and stuffed them into the holds of ships, only to die by the dozens every hour on the way to this moraly rich country you so proudly boasted of, BUT, WE ALSO HAD A LOT OF THINGS RIGHT!!!1. Yeah, we let natives and africans fight our battles in the War of Independence, but WTF? Let a white woman marry a negro? Lynch, anyone? I guess hanging witches, selling human commodities, stealing land from savages and mexicans arent crimes, where they? Like you said, crime was almost non-existent.

Shit, I didnt know Democracy and the Republic were Christian values, I could have sworn they were Greek! WTF was I thinking?! Wasnt homosexuality pretty common in those days too? I thought Christianity stressed the Inquisition, witch hunting, torture, crusades, feudalism, and christmas cards. Your assumption that our secular system was intended to prevent yet another anglican reformation is not only fucking retarded, but its also insulting. Im sure notions of Liberty and Fraternity bore no significance to secularism at all. In fact, they probably put it there just to take up space and to fuck with us.

But now, we have these fanatics like the ACLU who are running around and practically raping the Constitution with its own good intentions. I mean, the country was founded on Christian morals and ethics, the very basis of Christianity is woven more tightly amongst our government and laws than most would care to believe.

Yeah fuck the ACLU, what the fuck did they ever do for us? How about the child labor laws, minimum wage, teaching science and evolution in school, freedom of speech activists, desegregation, being able to criticize your government and all kinds of shit.

And now just look at our country unravelling as these radicals do their best to undo what has for the past 200 years made America the greatest and most powerful country in the world.

Umm the US didnt become the most powerful nation until 1945, and it wasnt because of our christian values, it was because we made more shit to beat the axis powers with. oOo:

Look at the crime rates skyrocket.

What the fuck is it with you and crime? Like it has anything to do with gay marriages.

DELETED THIS BECAUSE IT WAS ALL BULLSHIT

Anyone who says this country isn't spiraling down the shitter is either stupid or plain ignorant. And if you want to deny that it's because of these radicals stripping the public of all religious reference - and therefore removing their moral compass (the basics of United States law were based on the Ten Commandments and parts of the Hammurabi) - that's fine.

What is the shitter? Poor education, unemployment, intolerance? That sounds like shit to me, but I guess since im a liberal, I can just blame Bush. Poor education: Funding for colleges were cut so that most had to raise tuition in order to stay open. LEAVE NO CHILD BEHIND, RIGHT?? Unemployment: Read the fucking news once in a while, how many jobs were lost and compare it to how many were created since bush took office?? Intolerance: This is what weve been talking about this entire thread, who is trying to discriminate here???

And just to take this a step further, take note of the European countries that our local liberals try so desperately to mimic. Germany, for instance, which has an incredible track record concerning crime, has one of the most religious populations in Europe. (along with a huge fetish with scat and s&m) Religion is a huge influence in European culture, and because people accept it as part of life, not because it's mandated by the government. (which is why france is trying to ban muslim women from wearing headdresses in school. OH but since they arent christian, who fucking cares right???)

I'm done ranting. (not likely, if you respond to my post, your a fucking hypocrite) It's not like I can stop anything anyway. You liberals just keep fucking up the country for us all.
