Portnoy is god.

fujimi7su 09-09-2004 10:41 PM

Me and Grave went to the show in minneappolis on Tuesday

honestly i was disappointed in Dreamtheater, they were all gay and light for the stupid YES fans.... :-/ Their train of thought tour early this year was 10023084929348x better

YES.. beyond being as gay as possible put on a decent show, as good of a show as they could for their age.... the singer wears orthapedic shoes.. just to put it in perspective

youll be disappointed if you went to see crazy portnoy solos.... he did a few small ones when we were there, both times tossing his stick up in the air.. completely sucking at catching it and nearly taking myungs head off... dumbass eek: oOo:

still worth the $$ tho

go knowing that DT will only be "OK" and YES will be kewl and youll enjoy it

DT's set on this tour DID suck because they were the opening act. I saw them on the Train of Thought tour and it was a 4 hour show of just creaming pants repeatedly. I hate to say it James, but if you're going just for Portnoy's solos, you wont see a good one if you see any at all.

at the ToT show, portnoy did a 10 minute solo, then got people from the crowd to come up and play with him.

Pyro 09-09-2004 11:01 PM

ToT tour owned.

Who knows. I believe it will be the last stop of the tour. So maybe they'll decide to pull all the stops.

Yer gonna shit yer pants at the awesomeness of DT live, man. Portnoy is a great showman and is technically flawless. Petrucci plays like a consummate professional, even though he looks like a Backstreet Boy now...heh.

John Myung was brilliant as well. He has a very subdued stage presence and kinda gets lost in audio mix a bit, but that could've just been the sound in the venue.

James LaBrie was great when he was on stage...heh. DT's songs tend to get a bit long, with extended instrumental sections (as you know), so James fucks off for long periods of time. His range is truly impressive.

I'm usually not a big fan of keyboards, but Jordan Rudess won me over. He's a genius. Playing note for note with Petrucci and Myung, he's without a doubt one of the modern masters of the instrument.

Take it all in...soak it up. You won't forget this show ever.

if im not mistaken Rudess started TEACHING at age 12 or something. he was a prodigy.

LaBrie is basically only there for singing, so when they have their instrumentals he just goes in the back and does nothing.

Ya, it was fucked the band stopped and tom yorke yelled out " someone pick that guy up and bring him to a medic" , the crowd complied and the started like they had never missed a beat. That band is so tight.

CHECK YOUR SIX

Fireal 09-14-2004 11:31 PM

Absolutely Amazing. Thats all i have to say.

Got there, thinking 5th row would be further, but instead im like 20 feet from the stage. Dream theater comes out, and just destroys. Petrucci did 2 of the best solos i think ive ever heard. Im sitting to the far left of the stage, so i really only have a few of Myung, Rudess, and Portnoy. All i needed. Myung, has to be the coolest looking bass player ever. Rudess was just fucking awesome. And Portnoy destroyed everythig (except after the second song, he went to the back, and took a few breathes from an oxygen mask oOo: ) After it was all over, Mike put on his Boxing Robe, and they all took a bow. I was reach my hand over the stage has far as i could, close to petrucci. He looked down, smiled and gave me and a few other dudes some skin. I was like ed:.

Then Yes came on, after like 20 minutes of setting up (Seeing Alvin Whites set after seeing portnoys made it look like a tricycle compared to a harley) Came out and put on a pretty good show. Chris Squire has to be one of the best bassists ive ever heard. Absolutely Amazing. Jon Anderson was hitting his note. The acoustic set was amazing, and the solo for south side of the sky was jaw dropping. For old Dudes, they can rock.
