What you guys don't get is most Tsunamis aren't big giant ass waves that crash down, the water just is pushed and the water levels rise so quickly that ppl just drown.

mr.miyagi 12-27-2004 04:52 PM

now 25,000 people taken and still rising....the footage is pretty scary

Doctor Duffy 12-27-2004 05:29 PM

I saw some too...there was one, where all these people were running in-land, and this huge wave just came tearing down on them. The 2nd one I saw was some Viillage in Indonesia, and a house was floating in this brown river.

gtboys34 12-27-2004 05:46 PM

Where i can see footage?

All the footage is filtering through now that the media are receiving public footage, it should be on your news channels now

The waves obviously don't seem so big but the power is scary, can see people getting swept away, would take your legs from under you in an instant

I wonder if they're gonna make a Memorial. Third world countries usually dont, so god knows where those 25,000 are going to be buried.

You know the scary thing is, you know how they mentioned "Pi Pi" Island in Thailand. I was there on holiday a few years ago and it struck me. Somewhere I've been is in absolute turmoil. All the people there I've talked to and stuff are probably dead.

Yeah! I've thought exactly the same thing! And, me too, I went to Pi Pi also! (Wasnt so picture perfect, was it? I was surprised there were so many Muslim kids..one Muslim kid played leap-frog on me while I was in the water, sinking me down a couple feet).

I remember going to Phuket (ever been there?) in Thailand, and going to the post-office at the beach, and the McDonalds, and having a Thai guy stare at me, then my mom, then back at me and just thinking "What the hell is this American kid doing with a Thai lady?". He's dead. The McDonalds clerks are dead. The officer who smiled at me in the post-office is dead. Its pretty scary to think of.

The quake hit at the worst possible time, holiday season (Christmas) where there are the most people in those islands from around the world.

Blase 12-27-2004 11:44 PM

My friend was visiting India for the holidays, No one knows excactly where he was though, it's possible he was on the coast.

It's hard to believe that a bit more warning couldn't have been given to countries further
from the quake, seismologists knew immediatly that it was 9 on the richter scale, and the
nearest countries were hit soon after, and apparently it took 2 hours for the waves to get to
India, Sri Lanka etc. yet they were left completely unaware of it..? Jesus, they do have radios
and phones etc there...couldn't someone have called someone? a lot of people could have
gotten well inland with an hours notice...what's the point of all this bloody monitoring then?

Good point. I'm sure that if this had taken place closer to Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand or any other countries like that then the word would spread quickly and governments would probably try to start evacuating people from the coast, although 2 hours isn't a lot of time to do that.

I think probably the best means would be the media, but most of these countries are third world countries. I'm sure most of the dead live in poverty and have limited access to these means.

Sad none the less.

23,000 people hake:

fuck man.

CoMaToSe 12-28-2004 05:03 AM

CNN says it could rise to over 100,000. Still about ten thoursand reported missing from eight different islands (10,000 on each island, that is).
Then you factor in the dieases that will be caused because of all the dead bodies and whatnot. Dysentary, cholera, malaria, etc. Remeber what the Bible says about earth quakes in diverese places (and if you dont, read revelations). First in pakistan last year, then india, then one in australia, then one in haiti, then one right here in germany, and now this..... California will be gone in five years. ed:

Largest aid operation ever seen now underway, latest figures are at least 55,000 and rising in hundreds daily

In one area called Phuket my sister was there about 4 weeks ago, makes you think how lucky she's been.

I bet they caught a few good waves in Western Australia
