people usinmg french words to try and sound "cultured"
Especially when they mispronounce

And when [people say "Snape killed Dumbledore". Having read the book, it stopped being funny. I actually cried a bit

Sniper101 12-11-2005 01:02 PM

I don't see why you guys base language on colour. who gives a shit if it is a white person who talks hip-hip slang...hate the entire slang...not the fact that it is a white person who is saying it.

Like hell...id rather see a kid talk "black" then like a hick...at least sounding "black" shows some command of the language.

The only arguement I can use is to compare rap lyrics (moreso backpacker rap) to country lyrics...you'll see a very obvious difference in the intelectual capacity of the writer.

This is really tempting to compare and contrast the lyrics of guys asking folks to kill policemen, rape and disrespect their girlfriends, and colorful use of foul language - to guys singing about trains, rain, and momma .... but I'm tired and BF2 is calling me.

You are very ignorant in your assessment of rap. Not all rap is about that...which is why I specifically notified in my prior post that backpacker rap should be used as a basis.

if you're gonna set a basis for rap, you have to set one for country...

and also, I don't see how even backpacker rap has a higher intellectual capacity then country. Most of it is just saying how they need to get out of the ghetto and how they need to work out of where they are and how they have been wronged.

Don't get me wrong, I love some underground hip hop, but I just don't think you can make statements like that when comparing it to another type of music that is different in so many ways.

When girls say, "Oh! Just kidding!" used in this way,

Girl: "Do you have a pencil I can borrow?"

Me: "Yea, Just a moment."

*Girl finds a pencil in her backpack that she was looking through when she asked me for a pencil the first time*

Girl: "Oh wait, just kidding! I've got one!"

That's generally conscious rap that fits that description - Backpacker is more like Aesop Rock, MF Doom, Atmosphere, Afu-Ra, Athletic Mic League, type of stuff - even P.U.T.S sways more backpacker than anything else.

c312 12-11-2005 09:53 PM

ok,ok

but still, I don't see how you can compare the two genres, they are too different from one another. They have different meanings, intentions, audiences, cultures, and history so they can't really be compared as simply as we are here.

I agree, you can't compare - It's fucking stupid. Pyro just makes mis-points every which way and sucks everyone into his bullshit pointless sphere of hellish existence. I say we vote ban now before we waste anymore time.

Himmler 12-11-2005 10:09 PM

pyro should have been banned from the minute aa.com was created.

Pyro 12-12-2005 01:57 PM

you guys thinkin I should be banned shouldn't sell crack where you rest at.

Eight Ace 12-12-2005 02:41 PM

I dislike it when people say "fuck off Eight" or "prepare to die Eight", that type of thing.

Sgt>Stackem 12-12-2005 03:10 PM

can someone tell the way too white old man WTF backpacker rap is?

Colonel 12-12-2005 03:14 PM

I hate when people say they want to ban Pyro. If everybody in here agreed with everything I said, they would be entirely correct in all of their opinions but, it would also get very boring. Differences of opinion and discussing opposing opinions makes the world a better place. My opinion winning makes the world the best place. LOL biggrin:

EDIT - I assumed "backpacker rap" is either something you do while hiking or something gay guys do.

"*Girl Name* can you tell me what the difference is between Gatsby's conversation with Nick Carroway in the novel and in this movie?" -Teacher
"Umm hold up..." - Girl
"Ones in text the others in video?*Giggle like a fucking retard.*" - Girl
"Not the answer I'm looking for..." - Teacher
"Oh JK!" - Girl (they literally say "JK" because pronouncing three syllables is more then their upper middle class minds can handle.)

[quote:59ffa]Backpacker is based on a fashion style popular in the mid to late 90s where people involved in hip-hop wore large backpacks. Originated by graf (graffiti) writers who kept all their cans and nozzles in the packs, the style caught on quick with the suburbanites and alternative rock kids who didn't want to stray too far from their style but still wanted to have a hip-hop edge.

People also use it now as a derogatory term for nerd-rappers, hippy-hoppers, and other fringe hip-hop followers, referencing the fact most of the listeners are suburbanites buying or co-opting into a certain style.[/quote:59ffa]

Generally most of the rap that the backpacker listens to tends to be the less aggresive and violent hiphop. Much more accessible to a larger demographic of listeners, but doesn't get any commercial airplay on mass tv or radio so no massive commercial success is possible for these groups. They generally wallow in the fact that they're doing it for the love of it.

Typical acts:

Aesop Rock
Mr Lif
MF Doom
Atmosphere
People Under The Stairs
Ugly Duckling
Athletic Mic League
Cali Agents
Blackalicious
Crown City Rockers
De La Soul
Souls Of Mischief
Hieroglyphics
Dilated Peoples
Lone Catalysts
Digable Planets
Little Brother
Jurassic 5
The Roots
...etc etc etc

...Same hiphop format, different lyrics and beats.

Hell, most young people haven't heard of these acts. Unless you go looking for this type of hiphop you'll rarely find it on your own, old or not. biggrin:

It's because the old jews in charge of the recod labels are too scared to take a chance with alternative rap and just play 50 cent and Eminem over and over on the radio because it makes them shitloads of money. Kids eat it up. Hell, even mainstream rock is in better shape than mainstream rap. At least with mainstream rock you get more than one sub-genre that gets onto the charts. Hiphop you only get jiggy pop rap. You don't even get true gangsta rap anymore.

It's sad.... cry:

but i'm gay and joyful.... happy:

c312 12-12-2005 07:47 PM

+1 to tripper for my new playlist

and yeah, most people have never heard of those groups, I've only heard of about 4, which is probably a lot better than the average person
