Touche.

But what exactly is the code for is the question? Obviously it can't be for a lot or else they'd be paying iD software.

Perhaps because they use Radiant still with Quake encoding?

elstatec 04-30-2007 12:55 PM

how do you know they did not pay ID anything for it, im sure you have not read every bank statement from ID/Activision/Infinity Ward.

Also most likely cod 4 is pc as well, can't see the console systems getting 2 of them in a row with no pc version in sight.

PC version would be nice, just couldn't get into BattleFeild and Americas Army was way to much work for me (game-play itself was nice).
Yep. In fact, CoD 2 was little more than the Quake 3 engine with an absurd amount of bumpmapping to make it look modern. The product was a halfway shitty looking game with like 10 fps.[/quote:4458f]

I'm guesstimating on this but I'd say most folks that play CoD2 etc are not doing so because it's pretty. I run it in DX7 mode just to boost my FPS.

Hence the analogy (compare a sheet of paper to a tree). A sheet of paper in its most primitive form was derived from a tree at some point. This is the same instance.

In terms of how much does it have to differ from the Quake III Engine not to be the quake III engine anymore? I don't know that technical answer, that sounds like a question for Legal. This is really splitting hairs. I can say that the difference between any Quake engine and our engine, is probably the same amount of differences between my earlier analogy of the differences between a sheet of paper and a tree. Simply because their similar doesn't mean they're the same, is some of the code the same. I couldn't tell you (not because I'm not allowed, because I don't know)

Again, Not the same engine. End of story. Feel free to take it or leave it, conspiracy theories are always fun to read. ;)

Cut and dry, our engine is SIMPLY not a Quake engine. If it was, in any manner, we would be paying licensing fees to iD, and you would see their logos on our boxes. Trust me, if anyone would know if we were using their code enough to have to license it, it would be iD and there would be a bill in our inbox.

This is really beating a dead horse at this point. I'm not sure how we can explain it any clearer, but if you have any questions feel free to let me know and I'll explain it the best I can. ;D

Read some of the posts on the forum. They are pretty funny in a sad pathetic kind of way.

Ditto.

I think Infinity Ward are deleting their posts there too, every time they post some news (ie [IW]BadMofo or [IW]420), the place goes haywire.

Is just as bad as IWNation used to be when the CCA + Anti-CCA were active at IWNation; bunch of kids running around fighting.

If CoD4 is PC only, there'll be escalation at CharlieOscarDelta and IW forums.

Stammer 04-30-2007 06:27 PM

Unless I missed it, CoD4 - at least what has been announced - doesn't have a physics engine.

If thats the case, this game can bugger off.

how can any decent modern game not have a physics engine? i feel like thats kind of a key element... shit, even programming gravity into a game is technically a physics engine... will this game not have gravity!?

In fact, there was an RTS game a few years back which had the storming of Poland from the German perspective. There were even references to liquidating the ghettos. Nobody said anything about that.

I haven't enjoyed single player in an FPS since goldeneye/perfect dark.

and i also think airbourne will be better than cod 4.

thats because as bucknub said you suck at them all and those games along with tribes were the only ones you did any good at[/quote:440bc]

im better than bucky at cod 3.

dr nein 04-30-2007 10:05 PM

set sv_gravity 0

elstatec 05-01-2007 09:45 AM

whatever happened to that call of duty where the germans win in Europe and base invasion on North America? Was that some april fools joke or was that an actual concept for a game?

Gonzo 05-01-2007 02:41 PM

what you are thinking of is called fall of liberty

Milla 05-01-2007 06:44 PM

That would of been sweet. A "What if" type of game.

HaVoc 05-01-2007 07:09 PM

Well I guess it is sweet, cuz they are making it. It's called Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. But it just looks like another console game to me. Too bad IW isn't making it.

Crazy Canadian 05-01-2007 09:39 PM

yeah i posted about fall of liberty a couple months ago, but since then i can;t find anything on the internet
