A whole movie, built upon 2 sentences of foreshadowed, dull paraphrasing of what just happened literally 1 scene before hand. GEE THANKS FRO SPOONFEEDING THE LEGEND OF WILL SMIFF TO US YOU RANDOM BRAZILLIAN.

Ok spoiler alert !

He decides to die for obvious reasons ffs. The whole film shows instances of how he was trying to keep normallity in world that is no longer "normal" . For example the dummies and talkin to em. The bond between him and the dog as well where he treats it as if it was human and has conversations with it etc.

The fact that after the dog dies the cracks start to show and then the fact that even though he broadcasts looking for survivors he cant deal with it when some turn up.

I'm rambling but I think it was a good film and overall pretty well done.

Proteus 12-24-2007 12:42 PM

What is the obvious reason(s) he decides to die? I couldn't find it in your post.

I think you're confused. Check your connections..

Coleman 12-24-2007 01:34 PM

spoilers:

obvious reasons? What more do you need? They give you all the reasons straight up. He knows that there's no way out of there and that the woman was already determined to get to other survivors. So what'd he do? He made sure of it that all of them didn't die, along with the cure that would save humanity. So in his death, he came to terms that billions (or whatever number it is) can live.

That is written like a bad essay answer on a college paper. He came to terms that? You ASWELL didn't say anything that could be defined as a good reason for killing himself. It just doesn't make sense, you really just said nothing that could be seen as an answer to the question. It's hard to describe it, it's like, saying something and absolutely nothing.

He just didn't have the will to go on anymore? He couldn't bare to stand existence any longer after HE JUST FOUND THE VACCINE HE'D BEEN LOOKING FOR THE ENTIRE TIME??? He just found what he was looking for, he can save his wife and son and the rest of humanity, why kill himself?

No way out of there? What about the escape hatch that provided a safe and speedy exit for the women with a child?? And if he happens to have the sense to put a hand grenade in the drawer of his science lab I'd say he'd have the sense to be able to get in his custom escape hatch, throw it, and then shut the door.

And if I have the sense to stash a hand grenade in my science lab, I might aswell place a gun or two just incase I need to hide in this trapped door. (was that a path out of the building btw, or was it just a locked door on a small room?) Didn't get that part.

And I can write about it all day long, because it's worth my 10 bucks.

And just even having to add the child part onto the brazillian chick seems cumbersome because he played literally no part in the movie. His big scene was eating cereal.

[DAS REICH] Blitz 12-24-2007 02:49 PM

No, it was a small hatch in the room, thats why he said for them to leave only at dawn.

In addition, remember that Will Smith took the head zombie dude's wife, and thats why the head zombie wouldn't stop looking for Smith. Thats why Smith said he decided to stay behind, because he knew that if he hid inside the hatch too, the zombie dude will still continue to look for him in the hatch. He sacrificed himself, since he didn't feel the need to continue looking for survivors, as he had already saved humanity (vaccine), and the only survivors that mattered to him was his family.

But I agree, shitty ending, and the characters were introduced too late.

Proteus 12-24-2007 04:20 PM

Thank you Blitz, but agreeing to disagree, that nade wouldn't have killed all the zombies, maybe they should have made it so only a few managed to follow them back to the mansion, but they made it seem like the place was being overrun.

Unknown_Sniper 12-24-2007 06:56 PM

Possible spoiler?

As a side note:
There was no way he could have saved his child and wife. They were not taken by the virus, they were killed in a helicopter crash.

OK Charles Dickens and all holiness of internet forum writing. I think my answer CLEARLY shows why he did it. I don't think the problem is with us trying to convey our thoughts. I think it's you not being able to comprehend at a 3rd grade reading level.

Prot you wanna lay off the weed. just a reminder this is just a forum not literary debating society.
god forbid someone in the real world has a diff opinion to you or you might send them a stern letter.

Nobody else really gives a fuck if you have an opinion or not but for some reason you feel the need to show how clever you are and be proven right.

Anyway meanwhile its christmas day here so i'm going to enjoy it with my family.
( as long as they don't say a film is good when i think it isn't)

Proteus 12-25-2007 10:12 AM

hahaha, movie just sucked THAT bad.

And show how clever I am? literary debating society? It just takes a bit of typing to explain why a movie sucks and not sound like the antagonist. It really does suck, but you all assume I'm just an asshole. It's just not a good movie. I thought it was gonna be good, like everyone else. Can't we all just get abong?

[DAS REICH] Blitz 12-26-2007 07:37 AM

i like this literary debate, its entertaining

Jotun 12-26-2007 08:25 AM

i saw it last night, i really enjoyed it. i can see where people had problems with it, but overall it was entertaining.

lol

"I was saving that bacon you bitch!" He was definitely thinking that

Mr.Buttocks 05-03-2008 09:24 PM

I watched this for the first time last night. 7/10. It all went pear-shaped when Will Smith used the Crippler Crossface on Sam the dog.

hahahahahahhahah

Mr.Buttocks 05-04-2008 03:23 PM

The alternative ending was better than the one they actually used.

Unknown_Sniper 05-04-2008 04:53 PM

I thought the same

[DAS REICH] Blitz 05-04-2008 08:14 PM

most people did, but I have no idea why the didn't use that one. It would have resulted in a possiblity for a sequel.

Unknown_Sniper 05-04-2008 09:12 PM

there still is a possibility for a sequel. Not with Smith but with the survivors up here in Vermont.

[DAS REICH] Blitz 05-04-2008 10:16 PM

but who the hell would want to see that? its like Home Alone 3...
