[quote="Garry Coleman":11353]Not to bring down anyone's faith but here is an interesting theory historians are thinking about now:

Jesus died on a Friday- TRUE
Jewish people took Jesus off the cross--TRUE

A Jewish person would NEVER EVER touch a dead body on a Friday. They always wait until the Saturday or Sunday.

Some historians think he was alive when he was off the cross (3 hours is a VERY short time of death considering others took about 8-12 hours to die) When he was brought off the cross, he went to his tomb to be rejuvinated. Then some think that he led a normal life spreading the word of God and married Mary Magdalin (sorry bout spelling). Then, in theory, he had children with her and lived in France for the rest of his life.

When you do think about that, something fishy is there. Don't get me wrong, I am a hardcore Roman Catholic--so i'm not doubting my faith, I'm just interested in what others have to say about it.[/quote:11353]

Yes, and some people also say we never landed on the moon, Elvis really isn't dead, etc..

Once again, you just simply didn't understand. I was calling you on your stupidity on not knowing what that scripture meant. I don't care if you don't believe in God, that doesn't make you stupid. Actually the Sabbath is from sundown Fri evening until sundown Sat evening so they could not of WORKED to take down the body on the sabbath but were free to do so on Fri afternoon.

Luke 23: 52 He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. 53 Taking it down, he wrapped it in fine linen and placed it in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever been placed. 54 It was preparation day, and the Sabbath was about to begin. 55 The women who had come with Him from Galilee followed along and observed the tomb and how His body was placed. 56 Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

Before His 3 hr ordeal on the cross Jesus was beaten, scourged and abused savagely hence was very weak (needed help to carry His cross, also He voluntarily gave up His Spirit as opposed to the spirit leaving Him).

Matthew 27:26-32 ...But after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified. 27 Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into headquarters and gathered the whole company around Him. 28 They stripped Him and dressed Him in a scarlet robe. 29 They twisted a crown out of thorns, put it on His head, and placed a reed in His right hand. And they knelt down before Him and mocked Him: "Hail, King of the Jews!" 30 Then they spit at Him, took the reed, and kept hitting Him on the head. 31 When they had mocked Him, they stripped Him of the robe, put His clothes on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him. 32 As they were going out, they found a Cyrenian man named Simon. They forced this man to carry His cross.

Matthew 27:50 Jesus shouted again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit.

I do not envy anybody who aimlessly, pointlessly warships any sort of god, like a cult, all you religious people are all drones to people who should be locked away in a mental asylum.

Do a little research before reacting to a post, God doesn't need your money, He gives you the life you have each minute of the day. You are confusing a supreme Being with organized religion and truely have been blinded.

No one was calling you stupid, it was your colorful reply that was responded to.

HE'ATHEN, n. [Gr. from heath, that is, one who lives in the country or woods, as pagan from pagus, a village.]

1. A pagan; a Gentile; one who worships idols, or is unacquainted with the true God. In the Scriptures, the word seems to comprehend all nations except the Jews or Israelites, as they were all strangers to the true religion, and all addicted to idolatry.

James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble

Sicilian_Summers 08-10-2002 06:33 PM

i choose to believe in what i want.

despite the fact i come from a catholic italian family (my god... the stories i have to tell) i choose to believe in what i feel is right and what is wrong. its my right as an american, and as a human being to think for myself and not be subjected to what anyone else thinks.

do i think there is a god? yes. why? because without a god, there would be no hope, no one to turn to, no one to pull us together. life itself would be reasonablly pointless. you live... then die. thats it? there has to be some reason we were put on earth.

Why the hell are you guys arguing?

This isn't any different form the Canada vs. USA arguments we have.

Some people believe in God etc. some don't. DOn't try to change each others opinions. If people want to be ignorant and ignore facts, let them. If people want to be blinded by their own stupidity fine. Whatever. People can believe whatever they want.

My grandmother is a hardcore Christian. She reads the bible and takes everything literally. The Bible was not meant to be taken literally. But ya know what, thats her problem. She can do whatever.

Just chill on the subject. Your not going to get anywhere.

Though some of the Bible is figurative, most of it is literal. Its not hard to differentiate

*MoG*Quartus your quouting of the Bible is quite impressive. Now try something, it will be hard. Stop quoting the Bible, use your own words. Think, that maybe just maybe that others opinions might have merit. What I have heard from you has done nothing but make me feel sorry for you. Your mind is closed. You are am man. Not a Man of God, just a man. If God exsists he will decide who is worthy, the bible won't help. Converted people into some perverse church that preaches how to hate other that do not believe as them is no key to your heaven.... To me you're more of a joke than any thing else. You keep confusing organized religion with a personal relationship.

Tolkien did , in fact, write fiction hence not true.

How can you argue about something you haven't even examined. The Bible is about real people just like you, who lived and died just as you will.

Why do you think its fiction? Any basis, experience ?

*MoG*Quartus 08-10-2002 10:48 PM

Its easy to disregard the Bible as fiction when you haven't read it. I can easily say the writings of other major religions are fiction but to intelligently discuss the issue I would have to at least do a little homework to form a valid opinion.

Just a fourth thing to consider
