Almost everyone in the southern states refer to any carbonated beverage as "coke". Example: I'm going to the coke machine. This could mean Dr. Pepper, sprite, diet pepsi ect. No need to specify. BUT if you are ordering a soft drink you need to specify Example: I would like a hamburger and a Pepsi to drink. If you said coke in that example, you would have specifically wanted a coca-cola. We never use the terms pop or soda. Never heard of fizzy drink. You would get some weird looks if you said fizzy drink. |
