Personally I think anything that is under 1970 is considered an "Oldie".
And since when did I say music from the 50s and 70s "sound similar" I'd put down that bowl and think for once you reject.[/quote:3bd35]

You didn't, I never said you did. I was trying to prove a point that Oldies are subdivided.
When did I ask you that, pot head?[/quote:3bd35]

The topic was in the form of a question. You didn't specifically ask me but the whole forum in general.

Man, there was no need to get so offensive. It's all oldies, but what I was trying to explain to you is that oldies are generally subdivided into two categories, Golden Oldies from the 50s and such and Classic Rock from the mid 60s through the 70s.

Old Reliable 12-31-2003 09:18 AM

no they're not. oldies are from 50's to about 70's. classic rock is totally different. listen to a classic rock station and a golden oldies station

I don't know about your stations in Michigan, but around here, Classic Rock stations play music ranging from the mid 60s on through the 70s, and Golden Oldies stations play mostly 50s to mid 60s. Sometimes they interchange and play the same bands, but the music is from different times.

Explain to me what you think is Classic Rock and what you think is Oldies, not just times but band names and/or songs.

thats weird, well oldies are mostly pop (beatles, elvis, motown, beach boys) around here

Yeah, excluding most Elvis, all of motown, and the early Beatles songs, that's all Classic Rock around here. Motown, the majority of Elvis, and the early Beatles songs are Golden Oldies.

I guess people never even bothered to explain which is what and what constitutes what goes where. It's all oldies in the end.

I was looking at that site you posted, and that's mostly Golden Oldies around here, exlcuding Bob Dylan, CSN&Y, some of the Rolling Stones, and a few others.

yeah, there's not really a defining time period for that music, it kinda meshes together and then ends and starts at differen times

Yeah. But at least we are arguing about the best modern musical period. Some bands changed their sound, and others stuck with the same sound even through the 60s and I bet some even went through the 70s.
