MOHTeam Article: Player Classes
Sorry for lack of updates guys...
Bwah as if anyone cares. Anyways, A great MOHTeam Article has been posted up; this one's on the "Player Classes" of MOH:PA. Here's a small part: [quote:1768b]Although the choice of standard equipment is fixed to the class upon joining, during a match, it’s possible for players to drop their backpack (including class-specific items) when they are shot and killed, much in the same way that a weapon is dropped when a player is killed in Allied Assault, Spearhead, or Breakthrough. For example, a team of four infantry and a medic are facing an enemy team. One of the infantry is shot but is only incapacitated. The corpsman, however, is shot and killed, forcing him to respawn. His body disappears but he leaves behind his backpack - the item that gives the corpsman the ability to use a Corpsman’s Pouch hand prop, which is used to heal and revive players. One of the other infantry can pick up the backpack and use it to restore the health of any teammates that are wounded. However, an infantry is not the equal of a corpsman, who possesses a different set of class-specific bonuses. So while an Infantry may use the corpsman’s pouch to heal, he cannot revive with it, nor is his healing as quick or as effective then when used by a corpsman.[/quote:1768b] Wanna hear more about player classes? MOHPA Player Classes Update
Following up on my last post onPlayer Classes,[/url:f2ed3] Multiplayer lead designer Ed Moore had this to say:
[quote:f2ed3]Yes, we are doing 4 classes, for now. The Japanese equivalents are: 1. Heitai ("soldier"/Infantry) 2. Kangohei ("medic"/Corpsman) 3. Kosakuhei ("engineer"/Combat Engineer) 4. Shichuhei ("supply soldier"/Ammo Tech) To summarize quickly, Infantry have higher health and the widest selection of weapons (including sniper rifles). Corpsman are primarily good with rifles and naturally have heal and revival abilities. Engineers plant charges and lay mines, Ammo Techs can carry multiple weapons, toss satchel charges [/quote:f2ed3] |
Multiplayer Developer Diary #1
The Official MOHPA Site[/url:c0825] has been updated with the first Multiplayer diary written by Ed Moore. Here's an excerpt:
[quote:c0825]Welcome to the first edition of my Developer Diary. My name is Ed Moore and I'm the multiplayer design lead for Medal of Honor Pacific Assault™. I've written articles for public release before, but this is intended to be more personal, kind of like a planned update, but it's my first one, so I hope you guys bear with me.[/quote:c0825] This article tells more of his history of gaming and his experiance in the gaming industry than MOHPA, but if you want to read it, click here.[/url:c0825] |
Engineer Developer Diary #1
The Official MOHPA Website[/url:632e9] has been updated yet again, this time the very first Engineer Developer Diary. Here's an excerpt:
[quote:632e9]...This involves making as many things as possible move, roll, fall, rattle, blow up, and float, so that you feel like the world is responding to everything the player does. To accomplish this, we decided early on that instead of trying to build a new physics engine from scratch, we'd use Havok®; but make no mistake about it: there's still a lot of work involved in integrating a third party engine like Havok into an existing code base. Fortunately, we were very lucky to get excellent developer support from them. It is safe to say that without their help, we would be dead in the water.[/quote:632e9] There's only one paragraph about himself (Keith Schaefer), the rest is all very interesting information 'bout MOHPA physics and such. Read it here![/url:632e9] |

Ask EA! Animations Answers - Part I
The Ask EA! program at Planet Medal Of Honor[/url:32ae4] is continuing on with the answering of your questions regarding Animations. Here's a sample Question:
[quote:32ae4]Q: Can you explain more about the maturing or damage of your teammates? How would a teammate get a bruise on his eye or maybe a scratch on his body? Is this even being implemented, seeing as your teammates can get healed by a corpsman? A: We will be showing the affects of war on your teammates as the game progresses. For example, the environment can affect the characters texture state (muddy clothes in muddy weather, blood on clothes after major battles). This is primarily for story and to show the affect of war. This would not necessarily be dynamic.[/quote:32ae4] Check out part one of your answers here![/url:32ae4] |
Ask EA! Animations Answers - Part I
Part II of your Ask EA! questions regarding Animations is all wrapped up and answered. Here's one:
[quote:aa79c]Q: Will your teammates conform to the environments? For example, when crossing an open filed, will they keep their head down? When everything's all right, will they lighten up? A: Our AI is aware of its surroundings and environment as well as the level of danger in the immediate area. They will respond accordingly.[/quote:aa79c] This wraps up the Animations topic. Check out the rest of the answers here.[/url:aa79c] |
Single Player Designer Diary #1
The official Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault website has been updated with a brand new developer diary, this time on single player design. Here's an excerpt:
[quote:f3b27]During combat your squad will base all movement and tactical decisions based on how your squad nodes are laid out. Both your squad and an enemy squad will use military maneuvers, such as flanking, to route you out of your position. For the AI to be able to flank in a certain area you have to make sure that there are available squad nodes to the left or right of the position the squad is flanking. [/quote:f3b27] The diary, written by Tom Hess, also describes some of the processes to make the well known Henderson Field Demo, so check it out here![/url:f3b27] |
