I voted Randy Rhoads, but I'm a fan of Zakk too.
Randy was untouchable, man. Maybe some of you young'uns can't really appreciate what kind of impact Randy had on the metal scene in the early 80s, seeing as though you were residing in your father's brainbag. The first time I heard the solo for Mr. Crowley, I almost sold my guitar and called it quits, it was that good. His talent is only overshadowed by his potential, which was snuffed out way too early. Zakk is an amazing player as well, but he really hasn't recorded much that has stayed with me and influenced my playing. Ok, maybe I was doing those wild pinched harmonics he whores in every song, but that's about it. Zakk's solo during the Ozzy show I saw last year was awe inspiring, though. My jaw hit the Corel Centre floor and stayed there for a good 5 minutes. It was probably the loudest thing I've ever heard...heh heh. |
randy all the way.

i dont really care much about ozzy, but BLS and Zakk's solo albums give me a boner.. hes gr8
randy's good, but meh.. |
Randy was the man. Better than Zak. Ozzy rocks rock: he has a knack of finding great geeetatists

I don't know what you consider good soloing, then. Randy didn't play with the blistering speed of a Petrucci or Malmsteen, nor did he go off on 10 minute existentialist-type instrumentals like Satch or Vai. What he DID do was solo to match the song he was playing. It was him, a Les Paul (or that cool polkadot V), and a wall of Marshalls. Randy's solos were works of pure art, man; heartfelt, sometimes acrobatic, and powerful. I don't see how you could possibly say that he wasn't a great solo player. Id rather listen to the solo from "Mr. Crowley" or "Diary of a Madman" than Yngwie Malmsteen play 250 notes per second or Steve Vai play a 4 neck guitar with his cock or something. I know it's opinion, and I'm not attacking you. I'd just never heard anyone say negative things about Randy Rhoads before. It's a new thing for me. |
Solos with feeling heart and soul>technically perfect solos
