Anyway. The movie was great. Tom Cruise really wasn't that bad. I understood just about all of it except for Ray's son. It's a good movie, but of course everyone has to find something wrong with it. For example: This stupid moronic blonde doesn't like the movie because of one of the effects: [ Drop of water > Micro-Orgamisms > Stars ]. rolleyes: It was also good because of the very few clichés. I read how Spielberg and many others went through a lot of things to make it not cliché. |

Any one catch that naked dude streaking in that one scene?
|
I think I saw Gordon take out a few tripods with rockets!
|
Ha that's what I was thinking when the tripods were shown behind the fog.
As for the terrorist thing, same thing happened in the 80's. You had several hostage crisis and the marine barracks incident and every action movie that came out had to do with terrorists in Lebanon or Iran. |

Why did they implant these 'vehicles' in the ground millions of years ago. They just came and said, "Oh hey, I don't like the look of it here. Let's go and come back later." It doesn't seem to have any logic to how they put their vehicles there millions of years ago and then just appear for no apparent reason. |
HAHHA! The part where that dude cries while masturbating basically captures the message that Wells was trying to explain.

Just cut class at uni for two hours to go see it, I absolutely loved it. Great film, Spielberg owns. Cruise, once again plays a totally different 'average joe,' I really enjoy watching him on film, lately I've noticed he really gets into his characters, working their own mannerisms, movement, all the little things.
*SPOILERS IN THE PARAGRAPH BELOW** . . . The one thing about the movie that pissed me off, was when Cruise's character went to kill Tim Robbins' character (The crazy ex-ambulance driver in the rundown house), he told his daughter to sing to herself. Why did he ask her to sing, of all things, when he is killing this guy for being noisy and drawing the attention of the invaders......?? . . . /END SPOILERS That was the only thing that bugged me - And for those that didn't see it, and therefore, didn't read the spoiler - It's really not that big of an issue, just a nitpick on a reasonably important scene. It didn't stop me from LOVING the movie, and walking out of the theatre feeling like I got my moneys worth.... Quote:

just saw it.......i liked it
|
Just got back..it was definantly a Intense movie that grabbed my senses and punched then in the face.
The part where the guy was so desperate he was ripping apart the glass windshield with his hands was ed: I liked it and the effects it portrayed...I found myself thinking many times...This could actually happen. ps... spoiler alert!! The traffic cop directing people away from the lightning strike hole in the intersection in NYC was Sgt. Dominic Pilla the 1st american casualty from Black Hawk Down.(sorry I like pointing out what movies Ive seen other less known guys in) |
I've just got back from watching it, It was an Excellent film and loved the way it followed the family around rather than focus on the war itself.
|
Lets not try and nitpick every little detail. I just saw it, it was extremely good. The sights and sounds make you feel like you're there - I was freakin' scared. Very well done.
EDIT: Coleman, if you can't figure out why there was no music in the first 15-20 minutes, I don't think you deserve to be associated with music at all. |
Quote:
I could pick out many points in the first half hour of the movie where I would insert some music selections. Music doesn't have to overpower the acting. That's not the purpose of music. Music is to give another edge, another flare of excitement, suspense, what have you. It seems to me, Vance, that you think music is supposed 'to sound good to the ear' and all of that. People think of music as being all consonance. dissonance is what makes music interesting. When you hear some 4-3 suspensions (creates dissonance and eventually gives a great resolution feel once it's resolves to the 3rd scale degree). Things like this aren't worth arguing since you don't know what I'm saying. I'm not calling you ignorant or anything; I'm just saying there is no purpose in making a long drawn-out arguement to an uninformed person. |
Just saw it, I thoroughly enjoyed it, I was literally on the edge of my seat for a few scenes, damn good movie, sound was impressive, felt like I was there.
