The US isn't going after NK because it failed in its foreign policy to stop it from happening, and knows not that they cannot stop them. Maybe getting rid of non-proliferation negotiations was a bad idea afterall.
|
Non-proliferation agreements based on blackmail and capitulation - which is exactly what the policy of the Clinton administration was - is NOT a foreign policy plan. Period. This administraiton basically went in and say "Fuck you, youre not holding us hostage. Build your little weapon, and we dare you to use it".
At the end of the day, if a country wants to start a nuclear program - it will. PERIOD. No amount of diplomacy can stop that. |
China is not stupid and I dont think they would risk the olympics and many other things that are about ot happen for them to save N. Koreas ass.
|
China is becoming more and more publically embarrassed by NK. Slowly NK is becoming a self-supporting nation, and they're gonna feel the hurt.
Ninty: We're going after Iran right now because NK has proven (we think) that they have a bomb. Iran does not, yet. Think about it: There are two people that are going to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. One has already commited and jumped; do you try rescue him, or convince the other potential jumper of stepping down? If you rescue the already-jumped you risk losing the other one as well. |

[quote="Fluffy_Bunny":0854c]Maybe kus in the first Korean War China & NK whipped not only US azz but the UK/Australia/Canada & some other members of the United Nations.[/quote:0854c]
For the sake of pride, nobody whipped anybody's ass in that war. It was a flip-flop match that ended in a stalemate. Middle 1950 - NK invades Middle/Late 1950 - NK pushes UN/SK back to what's called the "Pusan perimeter" where about 100 miles of land was still under UN control. Late 1950 - Incheon landings, UN/SK pushes back NK all the way back up north, and in some parts, to the Chinese border. Early 1951 - China enters on the NK side. Pushes the UN/SK forces down 2/3 of the way into SK. 1951-53 - UN/SK pushes Chinese and NK back to the 38th parallel - war becomes a standsill until the ceasefire. Look here's a map. my coworkers mom just emailed her saying that her step brother stationed in Korea has been notified that we are at war with korea and will be going to fight soon. i havent heard this from any of my other friends and her mom is italian, so she may have taken the conversation out of context or just misunderstood - anyone know if shots are being fired already? i doubt it eek:
|
Nothing on CNN...yet. The troops are definately on high alert though. I know there's been one or two border skirmishes in the past couple weeks but that has happened before.
|
yeah, she might be talking about those few isolated fights on the borders.
I have a friend that's been stationed in South Korea for a year and a half now. I think I'll send him an e-mail to see what's up. |
