Triploid, as I understand it from the grass carp (fish) means that the species is genetically unable to reproduce. For example, with the grass carp, they put in triploid carp to eat abundant vegetation in ponds/lakes/etc but also to make sure the carp won't reproduce and take over the ecosystem (as they are known to do)

have you ever taken elementary school level biology? you know like haploid and diploid? gametes (sex cells) are haploid so when they are fertilized they become diploid....well if there is a mistake in gamete production, one of the cells can become triploid and usually, like c312 said, they are infertile........yea im a bio major....

ok, exaggeration....but its taught in all high schools in the united states....im pretty sure everyone has to take biology at least once in high school.
