1. he wants to play short again...Gullien is moving to 1st so now there is an opening at short
2. hes a scott boras client, boras has dealt with the tigers a lot so they have good banter with him. they can easily offer to keep him at 25M a yr
3. they can afford him. their payroll is like 1/3 of the spankees
4. Detroit is a contending franchise out of the glare of NY

obviously it all hinges on if he chooses to become a free agent. I mean right now the rangers are still paying half of his salary for the yankees, if he wants out, the yanks would then have to pony up the full ammount, something the fans might talk them out of with him going 1 for 50 in the playoffs recently
