Steve:Thats not enough.
Mark:The oldest one has blonde hair.
Steve:Ahh, easy then...

What ages are Marks 3 kids??

But the question was, what ages are Mark's 3 kids, and the conversation was between Mark and Steve? If it's really a reading question then the conversation should've been between James and Craig, and then ask about Mark's kids... or better yet, change the last line and ask about Jame's kids... Just a thought.

Yeah... I thought about doing it (because I'm not the author) but you know,
I'm really lazy. happy:

It wasn't so much a puzzle as a test to see who would pick up on it... like the
video of white and black-clothed people throwing around a basketball among
themselves: most people won't notice the black gorilla walking and standing
by because they've been instructed to dismiss the black-clothed people. Just
funny...

I was going to say something when you first posted that, but I thought that was too easy and probably wasn't what you were looking for so I kept my mouth shut.

[quote="Arrogant prick":951a5]Two old friends hadn't seen each other for a long time when they meet in the streets. 'How are your three sons?' -the first asks. 'Hey, I can't remember their ages'. The other replies, 'Well, the product of their ages is 36. Also the sum of their ages equals to the number of windows in that house over there'. The first one says: 'Listen, I still can't figure out the ages of your sons'. The second replies 'Sorry, I forgot to tell you my oldest son has blue eyes.' At which point the first one figures out the ages of the three sons. Can you do it?

Answer: Begin by writting all the possible set of three numbers that when multiplied give 36. You will notice that their sums add up to different numbers except for the solutions {1,6,6} and {2,2,9} which both add to 13. So the fact that the friend cannot deduce their ages means that the solution does indeed add up to 13. So the last piece of information rules out {1,6,6} as this has no eldest son. Remaining solution is {2,2,9}.

Bah. Cute for a moment :)

One day Officer Green was patrolling the streets when he heard a woman scream, "NO JOHNNY DONT DO IT!" Surprised he ran over to a dry cleaners and found a woman dead and a silver pistol next to her. There were three people there the first one said, "I'm her driver" The second one said, "I'm her secratary. Andthe last one said, "I'm her revrond". Then within seconds officer green found out who it was.

Who was it?
below is the answer if you wanna know copy and paste it to notepad. oOo:

her revrond because she said, "no JOHNNY dont do it" and he was the only man. The driver and secratary were women.

My own creations: the first is rather easy, the second depends on your level
of base 2, 8 or 16 knowledge and finally, the third will have you tearing your
hair out. Have fun...

This is an analogy.
y = 3(x - 5) : L :: y = (x - 1)(x + 1) : ?

The second is related to binary/hex or octal
10, 171, 3004, 52429, 908766, x

Find the value of x

This one should give you a headache:
1621 2432 6448 x

Find the value of x and explain your reasoning.

SoLiDUS 09-09-2004 06:54 PM

Another cutie...

1.500, 1.667, 1.400, 1.571, ?

imported_Grim_Reaper 09-09-2004 06:57 PM

wow confusing. as for that second one u posted, not the green but the decimals. is it 1.300? im just guessing...

Find the value of x

Answer = 61167

Reason

Decimal converted to binary then to hex

10 > 1010
171 > 10101011
3004 > 10111011100
52429 > 1100110011001101
908766 > 1101110111011110

upon converting to binary - convert to hex and get these results.
000A
00AB
0BBC
CCCD
DDDE
as you can see it makes a pattern
EEEF
This converts to
1110111011101111
converts to decimal:
61167

if i have time later i'll see if i can attempt no 3

SoLiDUS 09-10-2004 08:07 AM

CLOSE but no dice... (hint: no reason for binary conversion)

Poseidon 09-10-2004 08:47 AM

I dont know how to convert directly from decimal to hex. Will keep trying to solve it.
