Did you call the Lightning to let them know they were going to win for sure? This isn't any city in the US or Vancouver or Montreal. This is Calgary. There are no riots. We are proud of our team. Destroying things for winning or losing is the stupidest thing anyone can do.
Tampa didn't beat the Flames, 15 Canadians and 5 players from other countries beat the Flames. |

[quote:fec15]Good series.
Congrats Tampa. I really hope that the people down there embrace the Holy Grail, and not just forget about it tomorrow as Football season comes around, because I know how much the Cup would have been cherished in Calgary. Tampa deserved to win tonight, and I hope the fans prove to me that they deserve it as well. That’s all I’m going to say about that. Calgary just ran out of gas. Yes, we played not so great in teh first 2 periods, but this was our 108th game this season. We played 3 overtimes in the game 7 of Vancouver, many overtimes in Detroit and many in San Jose. I think it just caught up with us. Not mention all the injuries. Here we have Regher, our best defense man possibly playing with a broken foot. Donovan was out from game 5 on and he’s an integral part of our second line. Not to mention all the injuries that haven't come to light yet and all the players that we didn't have in the lineup for the pretty much the entire playoffs including: Reinprecht, Gauthier, McAmmond, and Lombardi from the Detroit series on. Those are major players missing from our lineup. I'm glad for Dave. Now he can retire in peace. Richards deserved the Conn Smythe, he played well. I don't think neither St. Louis nor Lecavlier played very well in the series. I don't think they deserved it this series. Khabbiboulin played well. Dingman played well, and that’s hard for me to say. I do think the league needs to do something about goals crossing the line and such. How hard is it to put a chip in the puck so when it crosses the line the red light goes on? That way there is no controversy. I don't really know if that puck went over the line, but it would be nice to know for sure. Now I kind of know how Buffalo felt in '99. The refing was questionable through out the playoffs. Namely the Gelinas hit from behind. Apparently hitting Lecalvier from behind deserves 5 and a game, but drilling Gelinas from behind warrants no penalty, and no suspension and Saprykins tripping in the game 7 of this series. That was the same move used to trip Simon which scored the winning goal in overtime in Game 6. So call it all the time or don't call it at all. Simple to me. Andrew Ferences hit with 1 minute left was not Charging. The hit was CLEAN. it wasn't from behind, and it was away from the boards. The stick of Ference got up on the face of St. Louis, yes, HOWEVER calling a penalty on any team with 1 minute left in game 7 of the Stanley Cup final where the teams are separated by ONE goal should not happen. I don't care if the guy is dead, you don't call a penalty with the game on the line. Let the players decide the game. Same goes for 5 on 3's. You just don't call them in the final. All things aside, we still had a chance to win. Leopold had a wide open net and Khabbiboulin robbed him. That’s the way it goes sometimes. Looking back I’m so proud of these guys. They have given me so much happiness over this past season. So many ups and downs. So many tings to cheer for. So many high fives, so many memories, so much emotion. I love this team, and I love this game. The best game in the world. I'm so glad I live here to experience this team and this game. We lost to a great team, the best in the east. A team with 106 points. The Calgary Flames have everything to be proud of. THANK YOU CALGARY FLAMES! I end with a quote: We left Calgary as a proud hockey club. We came to Tampa as a proud hockey club. We will leave Tampa as a proud hockey club. -Ville Nieminen [/quote:fec15] |
With the season over and the Cup won, this thread will now drift into the sunset.
Congratz Tampa Bay and congratz to Calgary on a good run. |
it was a great game last night, congrats to both teams! They deserved to be there. I bet Bill Davidson is one happy camper, his team won the Stanley Cup and his basketball team (the Pistons) are in the finals

I gotta say Calgary played a good series except for a few bad eggs here and there. I'd say the only person I don't like on Calgary would have to be Ingila he just seems to cry alot and bitch when a penalty gets called... Anywho I'm hoping to head up to Tampa for the parade stuff and such.

Ignila is the leader and captain of the calgary flames. It is his job to dispute certain calls. He was yelling and "complaining" when Lecalvier got hit from behind because the reffs called 5 minutes and a game, and right after that he got up and skated to the bench. The reason Ville got 5 minutes is Lecalvier stayed down on the ice. Basically he was acting, and Iginla caught him.
Another example is Ferences Charging penalty with 1 minute left in game 7 last night. As I said before, penalties should not be called when the game is on the line. It wasn't a legitimate scoring chance and shouldn't have been called. I think anyone would be upset if your one goal away, and you get a penalty called that pretty much extinguishes an opportunity at coming back. Hockey is an emotional sport. Iginla is the nicest, classiest and one of if not the most sportsman like player in the league. I was swearing and cursing and jumping up and down through out the game. Thats how much this means to me and all of Canada. |

You obviously don't know much about hockey, do you. hake: I'm about the farthest you can get from a Flames fan, but even I recognize that Jarome Iginla is a class act all the way. |
and for the homos that say oh just cuz no one cares about hockey intampa, and shit, where you play hockey means SHIT all. It's the players that make a team win, not just the fans. The tampa team has around 15 or 16 canadians on it, and we should be proud that the cup will be in canada anyway most of the summer travelling all over. And what team wouldnt play with heart in a game 7 stanley cup final, so no one can say one team had more heart than the other. Shit happens, and Tampa came out the victors, now lets move on to next season

I'm not a Hockey fan, but I gotta disagree with you here. In all sports when the "game" is on the line - all calls have GOT to be called, seemingly frivilous or not. Not calling the call could result in a team that was within striking distance, being tossed all the further back. Thats how important these things are. In basketball - rock: - sometimes it comes down to that last call, a foul on a shot that misses by a half inch, but isnt called just costs the other team the game. I've even seen announcers champion this "omg this is the playoffs how are you calling that obscure call" but then get pissed when other calls dont get made. I'm for call it when you see it regardless of the situation. Part of sports IS exploiting calls to your benefit. |
Ottawa signs bryan murray as their headcoach...basically florida and ottawa switched up coaches oOo:
