Most games and programs that use a cd-key report back to a main server, it's nothing new. It's just that they are too lazy to check peoples ip's. But maybe they will start to check them more carefully in the future...
|
I was reading a message board (i think isonews)and some guys were saying their firewall caught the program trying to send info to EA. So I think it may be there. I myself will buy the game. Warez games just don't work right and when I like a game this much just from the demo, i have no problems paying for it.

I've got a question. Has anyone packet sniffed the outgoing packets while playing the SP Demo or the ISO release yet? If it sends info back to EA or whatever I'd like to see the data its sending back even if it is not plain text form. If it sends the IP, I assume it sends the IP of the machine in question. But that will send an internal IP for all those playing behind a Cable/DSL router or most internal masquarading routers that is.
I question the validity of this data anyway. They only care about illegal keys...they can just ban a key from playing online. Most people who download the ISO aren't going to shell out any money to buy the game...they will just stop playing it. If they want people to purchase this game to play online then they must use a key based system.....this isn't even worth writing... I'm going to play the MP demo now. |

Dracos:
From what I understand, the game will not require a valid cdkey to play multiplayer. And like I said earlier, I've had this game on pre-order since it went gold (almost a month ago). I still have the file from tcpdump (I ran it while starting a Single Player game). If you want it, take a look at http://hunda.org:8004/tcpdump/ I'll put the file (lahlah.txt) in there for you. |
hahahaha. still no explanation from the believers about dynamic ip issues. How the hell is EA gonna prove it was me playing the game? Besides that, in my country, Netherlands, they havent even got time to persue normal criminals....
Ill buy the game anyways, but dont get all worked up over this, it just aint true. The cyberpolice is looking for terrorists, child porn users and other sich shit. u really think they are going to after gamers that downloaded a warez version of a game that somehow leaked out, probably due to EA staff? LOL ROFL, LMAO |
Jesus Christ: I bet Warze have had More Hits since this post was made, Than when mike tyson steped into the Boxing ring.......
Chances are if u do get this game from Warze most parts of it will be missing ,ie,Intro wont be there, Music wont be there,And so on ,so just wait for the dam game to come out ,And Bye it http://www.geocities.com/mohsigs/ |
Ops nearly posted same twice then.... http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi all. New to the forum, but have been lurking for a while.
Couple of things. 1) Any ISP (Including Earthlink, AOL, Erol's, Joe Bob's ISP, etc...) (or anyplace for that matter[stores, credit card companies, banks, etc..]) MUST release any and all info IF presented with a warrant. Without a warrant, it is up to the individual service and thier polies wether they release the info freely or not. (Most won't without a warrant). 2) A dynamic IP DOES NOT protect you!!! Most ISP's keep log files of ALL activity. With dynamic IP's the log looks like something like this: Incoming call on modem TC12 Answer call Authenticate call via username and password. Allow access and log phone number (If caller ID is available and setup) Assign IP Address 206.234.24.56 to modem TC12. Log date and time End call (When user disconnects) Log date and time Now you COULD argue that it wasn't you calling, but if caller ID is available it would be hard to argue. Now lets assume caller ID isn't available, but you did call from your house. Could they still track you? YEP! Here's how: Using the log above as a starting point, they check the username and look up the account holders info. They then call the phone company and get a list of all phone numbers associated with that account holder. They then have the phone company do a search for the dates and times in the log, to see if any of those numbers called the ISP at the same time. If so, then they got you. If not, you get away for now. The above assumes a few things: 1) They have warrants for everything. 2) They even want to bother with this. So while they COULD do it, for the most part (at least 95%) they won't bother since the end result (1 arrested user) isn't worth the time/energy spent. If that user is part of a warez group then sure they might do it, but otherwise no. And just to reiterate, with a warrant ANY company has to give up the info, otherwise they can be hit with obstruction of justice, interfering with a federal investigation (Which warez falls under, it is technically a federal offense) and more. If an ISP really pissed the Feds of by not cooperating after a warrant is served, they could probably get an injunction to shut them down. |
This should be interesting to all of those who dl'd the ISO. I've done some packet sniffing and the game does in fact talk to gamespy/ea servers while strictly playing single player.
Save me all the 'warez is bad' bs. I've had this game on pre-order for over a month, and I think it's really cool that I've had a chance to try it out. So, should you or I be worried about having a warez copy of this game that sends out packets to ea/gamespy.. not really, this is probably statistical data. Even if it wasn't, they'd have a hard time prosecuting especially seeing as the disclaimer mentioned nothing about the client sending personal information to ea/gamespy. That's called entrapment. Anywho, here is my packet anaylsis. [root@equinoxx tcpdump-3.6.2]# ./tcpdump -r lahlah.txt 17:55:21.736032 24.15.72.126.12201 > master.gamespy.com.27900: udp 45 17:55:21.753796 24.15.72.126.12201 > master.gamespy.com.27900: udp 45 17:55:24.679485 aa4.gamespy.com.eicon-slp > 24.15.72.126.12201: udp 22 17:55:24.681728 24.15.72.126 > aa4.gamespy.com: icmp: 24.15.72.126 udp port 12201 unreachable [tos 0xc0] 17:55:24.769197 aa4.gamespy.com.cadis-2 > 24.15.72.126.12201: udp 22 17:55:24.769295 24.15.72.126 > aa4.gamespy.com: icmp: 24.15.72.126 udp port 12201 unreachable [tos 0xc0] 17:55:47.471444 24.15.72.126.12201 > master.gamespy.com.27900: udp 45 17:55:47.612085 aa4.gamespy.com.ndnp > 24.15.72.126.12201: udp 22 17:55:47.612194 24.15.72.126 > aa4.gamespy.com: icmp: 24.15.72.126 udp port 12201 unreachable [tos 0xc0] 17:55:50.128330 aa4.gamespy.com.fjsv-gssagt > 24.15.72.126.12201: udp 22 17:55:50.128453 24.15.72.126 > aa4.gamespy.com: icmp: 24.15.72.126 udp port 12201 unreachable [tos 0xc0] |
Since all the smart things have already been
mentioned, I will limit myself to being cocky and say this : I would LOVE to see EA pursue all of the folks that played the game before being officially released. Good luck with the warez / official release user separation, if any is possible. Heh. Imagine the ensuing troubles they would have and laugh out loud my worried friends. Funny stuff. And all you do-gooders out there, stop being so retarded and wake up to the world you live in. The law looks nice in theory but in practice, nothing ever really gets done. I know this first hand because of certain things I've done that should have easily landed me in a jail cell ... Last but not least, I will quote a post I've seen on isonews.com (he says it better than I could) : For you who think it really takes them an entire year to infiltrate a group like DoD? All it takes is an email saying "I have an oc-128 backbone connected to this lovely drop box supporting telnet, ftp, http and whatever you need installed it has 3.5 terabytes or disk storage on multiple redundant raid arrays", I think you can join Razor tomorrow with this hardware and an excuse such as its belongs to so and so tech a web hosting company I run. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by SoLiDUS (edited January 14, 2002).] |
