I'm not saying it's impossible to get gigs doing all original material, but it's a lot harder sell and closes a lot of doors for gigs that just need a house band to provide party music.
People generally like what they know until they get to know your band.

i understand that totally, there are two roads: do the covers, pay your dues, earn a following, bust out the originals, or else try to make a following with all originals (usually ends up being friends), so yeah i totally see what you are saying...
ps, i have a few 'connections' in the indie/underground music world, including a few contacts that are down with ottawa promoters, so when you guys have an entire original set, i'd be glad to help out/pass the word...
