I voted for kerry.....bush won..lets move on and let him do his thing...no more bitching and pissing and moaning....be glad that you have this right to decided and vote and voice your opinion...

you could be wearing clothing covering everything but your eyes, not be able to vote, have no job, walk behind a man, be killed over your sexual preference and have no choice what so ever on who ran your country.....

god bless the united states for giving us this freedom.

ps....kerry has the plan to increase the size of the armed forces...not bush.....the draft would have been kerry's plan.....though I highly doubt it would be instituted,

Wasn’t it to rebuild relations with America's allies to help with the war in Iraq, so only a small percentage of American soldiers where in Iraq?

[quote:8a7c3]America has chosen a menacingly immature buffoon who likened the pursuit of the 9/11 terrorists to a Wild West, Wanted Dead or Alive man-hunt and, during the Afghanistan war, kept a baseball scorecard in his drawer, notching up hits when news came through of enemy deaths.

A RADICAL Christian fanatic who decided the world was made up of the forces of good and evil, who invented a war on terror, and thus as author of it, believed he had the right to set the rules of engagement.

Which translates to telling his troops to do what the hell they want to the bad guys. As he has at Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and countless towns across Iraq.

You have to feel sorry for the millions of Yanks in the big cities like New York, Washington, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco who voted to kick him out.

These are the sophisticated side of the electorate who recognise a gibbon when they see one.

As for the ones who put him in, across the Bible Belt and the South, us outsiders can only feel pity.

Were I a Kerry voter, though, I'd feel deep anger, not only at them returning Bush to power, but for allowing the outside world to lump us all into the same category of moronic muppets.

The self-righteous, gun-totin', military lovin', sister marryin', abortion-hatin', gay-loathin', foreigner-despisin', non-passport ownin' red-necks, who believe God gave America the biggest dick in the world so it could urinate on the rest of us and make their land "free and strong".

You probably won't be surprised to learn of would-be Oklahoma Republican Senator Tom Coburn who, on Tuesday, promised to ban abortion and execute any doctors who carried them out.

He also told voters that lesbianism is so rampant in the state's schools that girls were being sent to toilets on their own. Not that any principal could be found to back him up.

These are the people who hijack the word patriot and liken compassion to child-molesting. And they are unknowingly bin Laden's chief recruiting officers.

Al-Qaeda's existence is fuelled by the outpourings of America's Christian right. Bush is its commander-in-chief. And he and bin Laden need each other to survive.

Both need to play Lex Luther to each others' Superman with their own fanatical people. Maybe that's why the mightiest military machine ever assembled has failed to catch the world's most wanted man.

Or is the reason simply that America is incompetent? That behind the bluff they are frightened and clueless, which is why they've stayed with the devil they know.[/quote:8a7c3]

If the democrats want to win in a presidential race I really do think they have to take a less extreme position when it comes to religion. I remember hearing about how many Americans went and voted thinking about morals. The majority of Americans don't like seeing "Are you haveing Erectile Disfunction Disorder?" commericials on tv and all those other 'non-orthodox' (lack of better terms) media presentations.

Drew 11-04-2004 07:52 PM

I love it when people post op-eds like it's some sort of relevant and fact-based social commentary.

I live in and grew up in the Bible Belt. I'm more culturally enlightened than 90% of America, I graduated with a 4.15 GPA and am carrying a 3.9 in my junior year of university.

Bottom-line, elstatec, whoever wrote the op-ed makes some very sweeping and often ridiculous claims. Bush invented the war on terror? Right. I guess the CIA flew the planes into the WTC. And bin Laden is a hologram.

I checked on that Coburn comments, all I could come up with was this:

[quote:54a97]On the death penalty, he said: "I favor the death penalty for abortionists and other people who take life."[/quote:54a97]

The context of that is that he was discussing what types of punishment should be applicable if abortion is eventually classified as murder.

That's a difficult topic, and really depends on when you think a human life is really a human life. Personally, I believe that if a fetus has a developed brain and a heart (which is does by the end of the first trimester I believe, maybe the first part of the second), it is a living human being. And hell yes, unless the mother is going to die, I think that cutting up a living, feeling human being like that is murder.

Frightened and clueless.. wtf ever. Typically British penis envy. Most of England has gotten over the ass stomping 200 years ago, this guy needs to join the 21st century.

America is pretty much going to be the dominant power in the world for awhile to come, people need to get used to it.

why dont we just get rid of religion, then conflicts in middle east would be resolved and we wouldn't have such a divide rolleyes:

Coleman 11-04-2004 09:36 PM

you people that are all "anti-religion" make me sick.

Old Reliable 11-04-2004 09:39 PM

what does it solve? 3 major religions that hate each other. - 3 religions = ?

Coleman 11-04-2004 09:41 PM

it is one thing not to believe that the religions are correct, but i really despise the fact that you all think people with faith are subhuman and are "less" because of their faith.

Old Reliable 11-04-2004 09:43 PM

it forces people to think a certain way...eliminating freedom. a "freedom of religion" in my eyes is redundant because you are taught to think a certain way instead of acting freely without relying on a "god" figure. thats just how i see the world, mark me in the 1% of this country, i'm not the only one

Some freedom.

yeah but then it puts you in that "group" and then you are forced to think another way. get what im saying?

TGB! 11-04-2004 11:55 PM

Yea - the Mirror is an unbiased source of fact over hand-wringing hyperbole.

Look folks the Democrats (they are NOT liberals) lost the election because:

1. They backed a candidate who won ONE primary and got the benefit of the hype machine. If they had actually stood back and said "oh shit this guy is duller than paint thinner" they MIGHT have been able to correct a collosal fucking mistake. Instead Howard Dean goes "crazy" during one speech and is black-balled, and the Dems screw their one shoot at taking on George Bush - a mid-east Govenor who really IS anti-war.

2. John Edwards is NOT a politician. Hes a fucking lawyer. The WORST kind. And that showed obviously during his debate with the VEEP. He had canned answers (word for word almost) from Kerrys first debate, and got caught on more than a few blunders. He managed to keep himself from getting brutalized because hes a lawyer, a slick one. Cheney didnt buy any of his shit for a second. The public REJECTED the pretty boy with no substance whos reviled in his own state.

3. The bitterness. This KILLED you guys. It ABSOLUTELY destroyed any and all shot you had at getting the vote out - who wants to vote for hateful politicians decrying hateful politicians. Your "base" got burned out and either DIDNT show up or said F it Im voting for the other guy. I dont think they showed up because - supposedly - you had record number of voter regs, so assuming they DID show up to vote for the first time (exit polls do not show this - maybe 1/10 new voters) then that means you folks decided to stay home who were already registered. Both campaigns ran dirty, but folks expected that from The Architect Karl Rove - not from the "compassioned liberals".

4. Michael Moore. An absolute fucking ALBATROSS on the neck of the Democrat party. Lets just toss in all celebrities while we're at it. Folks dont like to be told who/what/why they are. They ESPECIALLY dont like it coming from the rich bourgeouis who have more money and more problems and go through marraiges like toilet paper. Michael Moore typified this perfectly. A man with more conspiracy theories than Oliver Stone, he came out as the "fat everyman from Flint, MI" when in fact he doesnt live in Flint, and stays in a Penthouse Apt. in NY city. Much like Hilary will be if she runs in 2008 - Moore was a lightning rod for those angry conservatives who reject the spoiled Hollywood elite and will let you know about it. He fucked you guys over - BIG TIME.

5. The youth. They didnt vote folks. Not at all. All the campaigns, all the drives, all the polls saying students prefer Kerry over Bush - poof. All for nothing. They stayed home and did what theyve been doing for years - remained apathetic. Why - because your candidate couldnt connect with them - AT ALL. Clinton knew how to talk to people. Knew how to relate. Kerry did not. Kerry is a smart man, marginal politician, terrible peoples man. Bush is an everyman (some say hes actually suffered a stroke which is why hes not as "sharp" as he was in 2000), and like him or hate his policies, hes STILL more likeable than Kerry.

You've got 4 more years to get your shit together kids.

But i agree with what you said especially the Edwards thing, hes a fucking lawyer...

Also i liked Howard Dean, i think he probably would of won if he had been against bush.
