I downloaded some Nasum a while ago (on your recommendation) and wasn't a big fan.

I think it was the vocals that tripped me up. I'm starting to listen to some more growly vocalists (e.g. In Flames, God Forbid, Kreator), but I still lean more to the side of melodic, powerful singers...with emphasis on singing, not cookie monster-esque growling.

Anyway, I'm listening to:

Bruce Dickinson - Darkside of Aquarius

The latest 2 albums from Dimmu Borgir might be to your liking. If by melodic you mean 40 piece symphony... The term gets thrown around so much that anything can be 'melodic' now-a-days.

Also if you like the older In Flames albums(Jester Race, Whoricle, ect...) then you should check out Dark Tranquility and Kalmah.

I think hes talking about harmonic vocals instead of the mindless shouting that some people do.
Not saying that it doesnt sound good, just that it is minless shouting..

When I mentioned "melodic" I was talking about singers in particular. I tried Dimmu Borgir as well, and found that I couldn't get past the vocals once again.

The music was great, the vocals were not (in my opinion, anyway).

Heh heh... I read your original post wrong... Nevermind that Dimmu comment. But the Kalmah and Dark Tranquility comment still stands.
