is it a digital slr lens or an old film lens?
|
It is the Sigma AF 75-300mm F4.5-5.6 multi-coated. He said he used it on a N6006 (or he didnt actually say, but he is selling it with that and a Tamron 28-105MM), and that it SHOULD work on a Digital Camera. Ill have mine with me so wouldnt I just be able to toss the bastard on and see if it works?
I cant find a lot of resources online for lens help - and it sucks. All these lenses have different identifying letters and uses, and it would be nice to have a site or something that demonstrated or explained what each one does. I understand this increases the focal range, and should thus be able to get better far away and macro shots - but what about the dedicated macro lenses and what not. Thats the info I want to know about. |
sigma 75-300 or 70-300? you've mentioned both.
it sounds like the 70-300 (if this is the one http://www.ephotozine.com/equipment/tes ... est_id=369). it's a good lens but it's cheap, and the quality is reflective of its price. the lens is really soft in the 300 end but it does well with macro and what nots. yeah all the numbers and codings get confusing, but it's basically referring to the grade of the lens. each company has their own specific brandings, like canon's L glass is the highest of the high and Sigma's EX is their best shit, so on and so forth. these forums have some good info http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/ along with awesome reviews. |
I ended up grabbing the lens. Was able to test it out on homeboys N6006 (was very interesting seeing film inside his, a fact I didnt know as I snapped off 5 quick pictures - spank: ), and it seemed to work quite well.
Brought it inside and did some quick tests - much like the first lens, this one is going to take practice. Im still having a little trouble with the "wont take snapshot even though im satisfied with the VF shot" - but thats just me reading over your advice and getting a chance to really try it. Stupid daylight savings time, means I cant get out there and do some testing, but I will tomorrow at work. This is what I came up with, about 4ft away: Scene just thrown together - for my needs and resized down. . .I think it looks sharp (functionality wise, not composition wise). Its the 75 btw - but I guess its more since it was designed for non-digital? Ill do some reading in that forum, see if I can find a manual on this puppy. |

Far too easy. Old bean, youve got to make it a bit more difficult than that. |
[b]Yea. . .those are the best (well theres more shots but theyre "boring" (not to me at least) shots of plants and whatnot)[/quote:ca71a]
I actually find those pictures the coolest. Clouds, the sun, reflections, and nature just in general seem to give me the most opportunities...i dont come across alot of people willing to get photographed also...im jus a nature guy... by the way, nice pics. |

by the way, nice pics.[/quote:033bb] The pictures I like taken are of shit askew, maybe a branch in a gutter or something - I posted those Salt Point pictures on a photog forum and someone called them "mundane" - which I would agree with if I wasnt into shoots like these. [quote:033bb]in terms of your autofocusing problem, try this. [/quote:033bb] This wasnt working for me. . .until I realized that there were TWO parts of the lens that are adjusted - the length and the part on the end. This is why it wasnt working in manual, I guess I was just adjusting the "focal length" and not the "focus piece". Blargh. Learning this thing is like playing a game like Legend Of Zelda - you get to a boss or a part in the world that youre not able to beat/cross, but then you find an item that allows you to go forward. Focus is my "Hook Shot". |
