i just wasted the past 4 hours of mein life in HL2
loved every second of it 1.85 AMD Barton - Oc'd - 2.0 gig 512 DDR PC-2100 G4 - Ti-4200 getting from 40 - 120 frames on medium detail and it still comes out sexy as sin |
Sexy...nein...but better than most games.
|
Yeah, might be a nice game....But, here is my specs.
Athalon 1300+ (1.3 ghz) Geforce MX440 (64 mb) and 288 mb Sdram........... No, it deffinantly won't run on my comp. That is the greatest flaw of PC games, I can't afford to upgrade my PC every other year just so I can play the latest games. So, X-box it is for me..........But, thats not such a bad thing. |
Finished it. Id guess-tamate playing time at somewhere around 10 -12 hours. If i had not gotten stuck once for upwards of 30 minutes it naturally would have been less. However it was a bug that i was unable to repeat.
Over all i would say... Fuck. Why? Because simply put put this game has "fuuuuuuck" moments. Those times you stop and look around or wrap up a fire fight and say "fuck". Fuck that its time to move on and leave that nice firefight, or section. But also Fuck because frankly the game as a whole is beyond the description of really any words. Sure there are parts that get boring, but as you keep going it just gets better and better. I've heard complaints about the buggy sections, which i found to be ok. I myself voiced complaints about the airboat missions that wouldnt end. Ravensholm seems to be a sore spot with most, probably because of the enemies that occupy it. I for one think that the first few missions seemed a little long, and dissconected from one another. This was not the case in the later levels and the story started coming through a bit better. Over all rating: Holy fuck |
I enjoyed the boat mission. Maybe its cause i didnt complete it all at once so it didnt feel as long to me. The game overall is probably the best single player FPS experience ive ever had. I really did feel like i was in a sci-fi movie. No cut-scenes and no transitions, just pure unadulterated action. I enjoyed every minute of playing this game. This is what an FPS should be and it set a new standard for games in my mind. The last mission was not that hard. I was a little disappointed in the end not because of the way they ended, just because it wasnt that hard and i thought theyd introduce like a new machine youd have to beat and plus the game ended which was diappointing. Great game and i recommend it to anyone.

I love this game! happy: I'm at the bit just after you get the shotgun and you get attacked by these beasts that jump and climb and make freaky sounds. The sounds they make are quite unsettling. loney:

boat level = too long
been at it for like 30 minutes or so - pissing me off cuz i don't like it lol |

yea those things are annoying. Shotgun is best against them. Just watch the pipes that are against buildings. They usually climb up those. |

Well, then It's an "evolution" that I can't afford to take part in.... It pisses me off. |
The thing I don't understand is why do people rush through a game just to get to the end, I totally don't play games like that, its more the experience for me, I like to explore everything. I hate it when people say "OMG the game is only like 21.56 hours long, it must SUCK, I completed it on uber-hard-nerd setting after playing it non stop for 3 days, please kiss my cyber-ass..."
The 1st one was an experience for me and alot of other people, so I'm treating this game in exactly the same way freak: |

Went back through the canals with some weapon cheats to have some fun.

Because after halflife 1 it seems when the xen portal was opened earth started being infested, then the combine came into the picture and took over when everything was weakened. Thats my interpretation anyway, we won't really have all the answers untill halflife 3. |

Spotted this, maybe it'll help some people out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What worked for me was a defrag and add/change these options in the config file: cl_forcepreload "1" sv_forcepreload "1" cl_smooth "0" That did it for me, game runs perfect now. But i also hear about memory settings that fix some issues for some people: "Getting the game to load as much of its self into memory as possible also helps a lot; to do this, right click on Half-Life 2 in steam and select properties, then click launch options, put in "-heapsize 256000" without the quote marks. For the number, choose half your total system memory, in the examples case, its for a system with 512megs ram, you should use 512000 for systems with a gig of ram." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When I first ran CS:Source I had this graphics stutter problem that alot of people had, if you have it, make sure you change the 'cl_smooth 0' option. If you don't want to mess with files then go in the CS menu > Keyboard > Advanced > enable dev console. then during play open it by pressing the '~' key above Tab and entering: cl_smooth 0 beer: |

As for the multiplayer, theres rumored to be a halflife deathmatch in the works for hl2. Don't really know how that would work though, if people are expeting the same level of physics interaction as in sp theyre gonna be dissapointed, i don;t think thats do'able. |

Was checking out the older e3 videos, when the g-man is giving his start game speech the game glitches when he says "again". In one of the vids when a level is loading up you hear the audio repeating a few times then the level loads. Also when you play hl2 usually these hitches are triggered by you opening a door to a new area on the map that you previously couldn't see, in all the e3 videos this never happened. I dunno if its a bug in the engine they couldn't fix or what but its been around since e3 2003. |
