So what are some of the preventive measures you guys think the goverments of those 3 or so countries will take in the aftermath of this disaster? Any ideas?

[DAS REICH] Blitz 12-30-2004 04:40 PM

If my Family and everyone I ever knew died, my house was destroyed, my city was in ruins. I would be dead inside. Some of these people must be just incredibly in shock.

build a city and attach a whole bunch of hot air ballons to it so it floats in the sky.

117,000 and counting are dead, over 80,000 alone in indonesia

Sgt. Paine 12-30-2004 06:02 PM

Update from BBC 125,000 dead.

Jesus my heart stopped when they announced 117,000 then a few minutes later announcing 125 thousand. Let it stop.

Imagine having to choose between which of your two sons lives and dies in a fraction of a second.

Luckily both kids survived. I don't know if could live with myself if I had to let go of a kid to save the other.

ed: annoy: Poor bastards. I saw a clip today that showed the ocean water receded as far as the eye could see. The sea looked like a desert for a few moments. The people stared with curiosity why that had happened. Poor bastards didn't know the danger that was about to come.

Really? I am a fucking moron, because I don't give a shit that a few thousand people died?

The human population is six billion. Big fucking deal if 0.000866666666666666% of the population dies. I don't care. Let nature do whatever the fuck it wants, and stop complaining/mourning. Clean it up, forget about it. It's obvious they did forget about it already in the past if they haven't done anything to help protect themselves from natural disasters like this.

I am surprised this thread hasn't been locked yet. All because of some guys with different opinions on a situation that involves death.[/quote:3e7a3]

One: Its not "a few thousand" its now over one hundred thousand. Also, this is no different than Middle Easterners dancing and celebrated after 9/11. No wonder the world hates americans. Its ppl like you.

I heard this morning that last year 40% of all humanitarian aid given to victims of famine, civil war, and natural disasters came from the USA.

http://www.newsday.com/news/opinion/ny- ... -headlines

" We Americans like to think of ourselves as a generous people, but among the world's richest nations ours ranks dead last in terms of development aid as a percentage of gross national product. Still, Americans have an inflated idea of government foreign aid spending. In survey after survey, the median estimate is that foreign aid eats up 20 percent of the federal budget. The real number is about 1 percent, including both military and humanitarian aid."

And obviously this article was written before more aid was given by the US.

We all know the US gives a lot, but I think what most people are talking about is that the us has a huge economy., and relate that to aid, its not the same as other countries. I think thats what the UN guy was going for.

Anyway, I don't care. The US can give as much or as little as they want. It's your country.

Mr.Buttocks 12-31-2004 02:34 PM

I don't understand all this willy-waving about who's given what in aid money. Here in the UK I've heard lots of shit on TV and radio about how Britain's given 80 something million pounds and country "x" has only given 18 million or whatever. Who fucking cares as long as countries cough up something to help out. spank:

True, when it comes to something like this youd think anything would be appreciated, but as is always the case it turns into a cock measuring competition.

120,000 or so people dead and all people can do is point fingers about whos giving what annoy:
